In our commitment to responsible fiduciary oversight, the Foundation is seeking an outstanding financial accounting professional with proven experience working with a charitable organization to join our small, high-energy team as Director, Finance and Administration.
About the Role
Reporting to and working collaboratively with the Chief Executive Officer, the Director, Finance and Administration is responsible for expertly managing the Foundation’s operational and financial systems and is focused on success through a consultative and inclusive approach. Principal areas of focus will include:
- Managing banking relations and requirements.
- Providing CEO with accurate and concise financial reporting and expert recommendations.
- Expertly supporting the work of the Board’s Audit, Finance and Investment Committee.
- Preparing periodic and year-end financial statements.
- Managing preparation of forecasts, budgets, performance measures, processes and controls and variance reports.
- Participating in strategic planning and operational oversight.
- Completing all bookkeeping functions, benefits plan, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Managing HR systems to ensure efficient and consistent practices as the organization scales.
- Ensuring compliance in all jurisdictions pertaining to charity organizations.
- Liaising with National Gallery of Canada’s financial team and overseeing biannual fund transfers.
- Effectively monitoring Foundation investments within established and approved policies and guidelines.
- Leading the organizational budget, processes and controls.
- Evaluating and managing risk.
- Leading audit processes.
- Preparing reports for Board and CEO as required.
- Managing relations with external audit and investment financial partners.
- Completing all mandatory legislative financial reporting.
Key Requirements
- Experience reporting at a senior level, with polished presentation style.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written), including the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
- University degree in relevant discipline and professional accounting designation.
- Demonstrated high degree of initiative.
- High degree of professionalism and desire to work collaboratively within our team.
- Superb understanding of accounting practices and all statutory legislation and regulations for Canadian non-profit and charitable organizations.
- Five to seven years’ accounting management role.
- Adept working at both operational and strategic levels.
- Knowledge of fund accounting and investment monitoring.
- Solid proficiency in QuickBooks Pro and Excel.
Work Schedule and Details
The Foundation team works in our office on a rotating schedule. Incumbent is required to live and work in Ottawa, Canada, with availability to work Monday-Friday, 9am to 5pm. Schedules may change based on operational/event needs.
This is a regular, full-time position commencing as soon as possible. The salary range is $86-$95,000 per annum and hiring range is $86-$90,000.

Condition of Employment
Secret Security Clearance is a requirement – this factor is not used at the pre-selection stage. Eligibility to work in Canada is mandatory. In accordance with the National Gallery of Canada’s policy, all staff and visitors to the building must be fully vaccinated.
