Director, Finance

SUMMARY
The?Director, Finance?has overall accountability and ownership of the delivery of the financial management services related to the client(s) agreement(s).? The candidate will be the strategic business partner supporting both the Company and the client’s executive business leads, and providing decision support on complex contractual and financial matters.? This role will lead all financial planning and analysis required under the agreement(s), develop and document processes and ensure internal control adherence under Sarbanes Oxley. The Director of Finance is the client facing lead for all financial matters, interpreting client needs and aligning to financial services while ensuring the integrity of the client’s financial reporting.
The Director, Finance will be responsible for developing a high performing team providing best in class, highly responsive, in depth financial support and strategies directly to our client(s).? They will be a change agent who challenges the status quo and continuously improves the financial service delivery through system enhancements and process improvements.? The Director of finance will have strong business acumen and excellent analytical and financial skills, with the ability to adapt quickly and to manage changing priorities.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
People Leadership
Demonstrates strong, competent leadership for team members to guide them in reaching their full potential and meeting their objectives, which supports achievement of our corporate goals. Specifically, these responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Full involvement with recruiting talent
- Provides mentoring, coaching and guidance to all team members
- Objectively recommends compensation adjustments
- Manages all aspects of performance
Accounting
- Aligns business processes to Accounting Policies
- Reviews and approves account reconciliations
- Provides guidance as required on complex accounting issues
- Supports Accounting Policy Formation
- Develops full understanding of IFRS/GAAP, and the relevant regulatory compliance requirements within area of expertise
- Understands the full cycle accounting for the multiple portfolios
- Proposes changes to accounting policies to align with changing standards
- Holds accountable for implementation/ adherence of Accounting Policies
Audit Support and Controls
- Acts as audit lead for internal and external audits of the contract(s) or business unit(s)
- Possesses advanced understanding of internal/client control requirements and overall responsibility to ensure appropriate financial control framework
Financial Systems
- Possesses strong understanding of accounting modules within accounting systems for specific portfolio
- Proactively identifies potential gaps and assist in resolution of existing systems in advance of changing requirements
- Coordinates and leads complex system setups and recommends technological improvements
Planning/Forecasting
- Identifies and prepares complex ad-hoc financial analysis and makes recommendations to Internal and External Stakeholders
- Reviews annual plans and quarterly reforecast
- Reviews in-depth ad-hoc financial analysis and recommendations provided by team
- Presents annual plans and quarterly forecasts to client groups and internal and external stakeholders
Reporting
- Presents reports to executive stakeholders
- Prepares and/or reviews complex business cases
- Reviews internal/external reports
Interaction with Stakeholder
- Leads implementation of management decisions
- Acts as a strategic business partner with Stakeholders
- Accountable for operations decisions made by direct reports
- Makes operational decisions and recommendations to executive management
Financial Management
- Shares in responsibility for long term results of portfolios supported
- Ensures all contract deliverables of a financial nature are met in a timely and efficient manner
- Makes operational decisions
- Interprets, implements, and ensures ongoing adherence to contract terms and conditions for assigned accounts
- Monitors forecasted annual performance and recommends/ assists in actual plan for recovery wherever necessary
- Develops strategic decisions – i.e. evaluating the financial strategy of proposals, defining contractual terms to ensure profitability, participating in negotiation of contracts
Technical and Business Knowledge
- Has cultivated relationships with operational counterparts and has earned trust as a business partner
- Has gained a high level of understanding of the industry and business which they support.? Can answer intermediate questions regarding the general business
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to work well under pressure and adjust to competing priorities
- University graduation with minimum of 10 years relevant work experience
- Well-developed client management and relationship skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to deliver tailored presentations to a variety of audiences
- Ability to motivate, develop, and manage staff
- Ability to oversee business case development, measure the value captured, and communicate the outcomes to the appropriate audience(s)
- Solid management/supervisory-related experience
- Full understanding of general accounting and audit requirements of the industry
- Proficiency with computer applications (Excel, Oracle ERP, PowerPoint)
- Able to drive process improvements to mitigate risk and drive efficiency in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to manage and resolve complex accounting issues and account reconciliations and implement recommendations
- Strategic thinker able to see the near term, short-term, and long-term implications of decisions with the ability to recommend viable alternatives
- Fully developed leadership skills to manage a team of individual contributors and influence peers
- Possesses deep understanding of accounting systems and operational system interdependencies
- Ability to make operational decisions and support strategic decisions with business stakeholders
