The Centre for Social Innovation (CSI) is part of the larger Humber Centres of Innovation (COI) network, which comprises of five COIs that focus on key areas of proven strength and industry sector growth. The Centre for Social Innovation is fully integrated into the Faculty of Social and Community Services (FSCS) and the Office of the Principal, Lakeshore Campus (Principal’s Office) and rooted in the Strategic Mandate Agreement, Academic and Humber Strategic Plan, as well as other strategic initiatives led by Humber. Humber’s potential for social innovation focuses on multidisciplinary approaches to facilitate the removal of barriers and community capacity building through the co-creation of solutions that address current societal challenges on a local, national, and global level.
Job Details
Position Title: Director, Humber Centre for Social Innovation (CSI)
Status: FT Admin Temp (one year contract)

What You Will Do
The Director, Centre for Social Innovation (CSI), will be responsible for ensuring that all social innovation activity is focused on the co-creation of processes, solutions, and the removal of barriers to address issues that impact our communities on a local, national, and global level. This may be done through the mobilization of fresh ideas, new technologies, and systems-level thinking, while at the same time preparing Humber graduates to be the innovation leaders of the future. The Director is responsible for leveraging existing and creating new internal and external strategic networks and partnerships, which lead to the development, implementation, and delivery of a wide range of innovation projects and activities. Working directly with the Senior Dean, FSCS and Principal, Lakeshore Campus, the Director, CSI works collaboratively with the FSCS administration team as well as Humber’s team of academic leaders, the CSI Steering committee, the CSI Advisory Committee, and COI Network leadership to create an environment that supports interdisciplinary teaching and learning activity; and to ensure that Social Innovation activities align with and support the achievement of program curriculum and experiential learning outcomes.
This role will also be supported by staff dedicated to CSI activity and integrated into the FSCS faculty. Leveraging internal and external partnerships, the Director ensures that all activities they lead connect students, industry/community, and Humber staff in support of social innovation. The Director will work with key external and internal stakeholders to ensure compliance and the appropriate alignment with the broader Humber Strategy. The incumbent will use a multidisciplinary approach to collaborate with groups and communities beyond the College ecosystem. Guided by the approved 5-year business plan the Director will lead and support capacity building and infrastructure development for a sustainable centre based on established metrics and analysis of key performance outcomes. The Director will work to ensure that the College stands out from a student recruitment perspective and differentiates from other post-secondary institutions in the province.

What you bring to the role:
Master’s Degree required, PhD preferred, in addition to 7 years of practical, work-related experience in the area of social justice/community development or social service provision. An understanding of the role of Social Innovation in addressing issues impacting society at large, and the potential for the impact of applied research that leverages the breadth and depth of programming offered at Humber. Experience managing projects (scoping, tracking, stakeholder communications, reporting) and associated budgets required. Entrepreneurial experience, project management skills and designation, and systems thinking background are considered assets.
Skills
Incumbents will demonstrate sound knowledge and proven ability to assess opportunities and associated risks in a variety of disciplines. Demonstrated experience with provincial, federal, and other funding/grant opportunities; understanding of intellectual property and commercialization; excellent interpersonal skills with a focus on cross-institutional collaboration and partnership development; business development and negotiation ability; external relations and strong networking capability are required. The incumbent will possess highly developed oral, written, and presentation communication skills; a proven ability to work well under pressure, manage multiple competing deadlines, and demonstrate flexibility. Knowledge and familiarity with College structure and experience in an educational environment are highly desirable.
