Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Communications, the Digital Coordinator will work closely with Communications team members and colleagues across the Town of Aurora to create, edit and publish dynamic online content for multiple digital channels. With a particular focus on content for aurora.ca , the Digital Coordinator will also provide support for Town microsites, play a key role in the development of the Town’s new intranet site, and also help create strategies to reach more community members on social media and through the Town’s external newsletters. The Digital Coordinator will have a strong background in content management systems, basic coding, online content writing, and organic and paid social media marketing.
Responsibilities

• Monitors Town sites and performs maintenance such as repairing broken links and clearing out obsolete content and media.
• Develops recommendations for the Communications team on how to improve social media reach, including improvements to content, geotargeting and geofencing.
• Liaises with external website host and Town’s IT Division regarding content, design and functionality, including issue and error management.
• Works closely with internal colleagues to ensure legal and legislated standards are upheld (e.g. the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the Trade-marks Act and the Copyright Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act).
• Coordinates and executes the production of new online content and web forms that adheres to brand and style guides, with a particular focus on aurora.ca.
• Provides expertise in the development and support of new online products as the needs of the community evolves.
• Provides recommendations on improvements to website structure, design, and overall functionality of aurora.ca, engageaurora.ca (the Town’s public engagement site), as well as Town microsites, including the Museum microsite and Aurora Town Square microsite.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Assists Communications team in the development of marketing and communications campaigns, including content and editorial schedules across multiple channels.
• Provides regular data-driven reports on site performance metrics to inform website improvements.

Qualifications

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent writing skills with the ability to simplify complex topics into plain, accessible language.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• University or College degree in Communications, Digital Communications, Information Management or Web Content Management, or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience preparing graphics for web and social media such as cropping and resizing/ reducing file size for multiple platforms.
• Demonstrated ability to create compelling online content for targeted audiences across multiple platforms.
• Minimum of three (3) years of related experience.
• Strong interest in municipal government.
• Experience in both organic and paid social media marketing.
• Experience developing and executing communications plans and strategies.
