Responsibilities


ABOUT THE JOB:


Investment Banking Coverage Teams within Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking (“SGCIB”) are responsible for managing the Bank’s global business relationships with large multinational clients.


Bankers in Coverage help drive overall client strategy, working with key business lines within SGCIB and outside of SGCIB to generate deal flow as well as assisting in cross selling all Société Générale key global products. This is accomplished through developing client relationships and working with all stakeholders to maximize business opportunities.


SPECIFIC ENVIRONMENT DETAILS:


Reporting to and supporting the Head of FIG, Financial Sponsor and Corporate Coverage in Canada. Working hours will vary depending on workload and time zone of clients. The team is smaller compared to other groups within the Bank, so interpersonal fit with members of the team is important.


What will be your DAY-TO-DAY?


Day to day responsibilities (under the supervision of the Head of FIG, Financial Sponsor and Corporate Coverage in Canada) include but are not limited to:


  • Support the growth of a selective portfolio of Large Cap Corporate accounts
  • Profitability analysis (advanced Excel modeling) for prospective transactions
  • Preparing client presentations
  • Communication with clients for periodic Know Your Client document updates
  • Tracking of live deal and pitch communication for current and prospective clients
  • Interaction with business line product specialists on specific client initiatives
  • Establishing a client and product strategy to develop the FIG/sponsor coverage Canada franchise
  • Driving deal flow through personal relationships and introductions between SG delegates and clients
  • Preparing Pre-Screening / Support Memos (business cases and client profitability analysis)
  • Special sector studies as needed
  • Corporate Finance data gathering on individual clients or industrial sectors
  • Yearly budget, periodic income forecast, income correction campaigns on the portfolio
  • Client profile development
  • Travel for industry presentations and client meetings as needed


Profile Required


Skills and Qualifications:


Must Have:


  • Ability to handle several projects at the same time (2-4 live deals or projects at once)
  • Mastery of Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong Financial Accounting and Corporate Finance skillset
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (personality fit is very important)
  • Strong written and verbal presentation skills
  • 6-8 years of prior work experience in investment banking, corporate banking, corporate finance, transaction services, asset management, or consulting
  • Ability to write succinctly and convincingly (effective communication skills)


Education:


  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related fields


Languages:


  • French and English: Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, is a requirement as the person in this position will need to collaborate regularly with colleagues and partners in the United States.


Nice to Have:


  • Proficient in computer-based research tools (Bloomberg, Capital IQ, Thomson Reuters)
  • Knowledge of bank products (can be learned over time)
  • Strong personal drive and self-motivation
