The security department ensures the safety of all staff, patients, and visitors at LHSC including safety planning, investigations, and fire safety.
What the Role Is
Reporting to the Manager, Security, the Coordinator, Security is accountable to ensure the safety and security of patients, visitors, hospital staff, building facilities and property. This is accomplished through the provision of consistent guidance to Security Guards and contract Guards, liaising with leadership representatives and front-line staff corporate-wide, preventative security, coordination of emergency response, public relations, investigation, and report writing. In emergency or incident situations, the Coordinator assumes the ‘Incident Manager’ role, directing the Security Guards in the performance of front-line activities. The Coordinator participates an in on-call rotation with the Manager, Security, acting as the primary Security leadership contact during non-business hours.
The Coordinator, Security is accountable for day-to-day department activities, including the management of human and material resources, day-to-day staffing and scheduling, development and support of a healthy workplace, risk and utilization measurements, and facilitation of improvement initiatives and change management, while operating within approved operational budgets and financial guidelines and controls. A major focus of the role is fostering effective working relationships and networks within the team/unit and with other teams across the organization.
The shifts include days, evenings, and weekends on occasion.
NOTE: this role is required to be on-call, evenings and weekends on a rotational basis of 1 week out of every 5-6 weeks.

What You Will Bring with You
- Licensing as a Security Guard in the Province of Ontario is an asset
- Successful completion of a recognized baccalaureate degree program in Criminology, Sociology, or a related field
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License, minimum class “G”
- Successful completion of a recognized program in Law and Security Administration or Police Foundations at the community college diploma level preferred
- Fluent and computer literate with computer systems such as email and Microsoft Office applications (MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint)
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience in security services preferred
- Related post-graduate education preferred
- Able to produce criminal and driver’s abstract suitable to Security Services
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience in progressively more responsible leadership roles in a healthcare environment, preferably in an acute care academic teaching hospital

Successful candidates will be required to complete a health review which includes providing vaccination records or proof of immunity against Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Varicella (Chicken Pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis. In addition, candidates will need to provide documentation of Tuberculosis Skin testing and a completed COVID vaccine series (two vaccines).
