Working within Health Services and reporting to the Manager of Healthy Sexuality, Tuberculosis, CD Outbreaks you will support and contribute to the Communicable Diseases Division vision for a healthy, vibrant and safe community in which diversity and quality of life are valued through exemplifying professionalism, developing a skilled and confident workforce, formulating effective internal and external collaborations, and striving for innovation in program planning, service delivery, and all aspects of public health practice.


The Team You Will Lead


You will supervise a team comprised of Public Health Nurses and Assistants. Depending on the program area, the team provides a variety of services related to sexual health, tuberculosis and communicable diseases public health management. The teams ensures an effective public health response to sexually transmitted infections (STI) and blood-borne infections (BBI), tuberculosis, and other diseases of public health significance (DOPHS) as mandated in the Health Protection and Promotion Act Ontario Public Health Standards and Protocols (2018). These responsibilities include:


  • Provision of clinical services including birth control, STI testing and treatment, vaccine administration
  • Outbreak management in Long-Term Care, Retirement Home and Congregate Living facilities
  • Disease prevention and health promotion
  • Prepare, administer and monitor the team’s budget; analyze service levels to assist the Manager in evaluating program efficiency; provide guidance and ensure adherence to applicable legislations, policies, and standards
  • Implement and evaluate clinical services and STI case management and implement strategies to assure quality service delivery
  • Ministry funded STI and tuberculosis medication distribution to community physicians and clients
  • Case and contact management of DOPHS
  • Program development, implementation and evaluation
  • Collaboration with community stakeholders


What The Role Requires


  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
  • Broad knowledge of public health issues, population health, epidemiology and applicable legislation
  • A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or equivalent
  • Minimum of three years (3) years in a public health setting with supervisory or other management level experience an asset
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered


Skills/Abilities


  • Demonstrated high standards of ethics, integrity, respect, accountability and upholding the public interest, and ability to use them effectively in decision-making
  • Polished communication, analytical and report writing skills
  • Must have demonstrative leadership skills and experience in leading teams of highly skilled and professional staff
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team setting including with a high degree of discretion and diplomacy
  • Demonstrated production in a fast paced environment and adapt to situations that require urgent responses (e.g. disease outbreak)
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills
  • Political awareness and business acumen, tact and diplomacy and an ability to build strong, collaborative working relationships
  • Engaging presentation skills with strong organizational, time management, problem solving and ethical decision-making skills

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at the 7120 Hurontario St, Mississauga, ONworksite. The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.
