Team Lead, Investigations - Full Time (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada)


Reporting to the Investigations Manager, this position will be responsible for conducting thorough and detailed covert surveillance investigations both by vehicle and/or on foot, as well as lead a small team of surveillance investigations through guidance, mentorship, and support.


The Surveillance Team Lead must share a passion for investigations and display an unwavering commitment to excellence. He/she must also possess a professional demeanor characterized by


integrity, good character, and mutual respect.


Job Responsibilities


  • Other duties as required
  • Maintain vehicle and equipment in good working condition, suitable to work and functions
  • Produce accurate and detailed notes and reports in accordance with Xpera’s protocols and practices
  • Conduct assignments in a proper investigative sequence including pre-operation planning, assignment, assessment, evidence collection, and reporting
  • Closely monitor your team’s assignment timelines and trial fees to ensure assignments are completed on time and within budget
  • In concert with the investigator assigned to the file, update clients on surveillance progress and provide information which may assist in determining the best course of action in moving forward
  • Conduct investigations in a manner that makes strategic sense and that are coordinated with the client’s intent, seeking guidance from management as required
  • Ensure compliance with defined procedures, practices, and standards as set out by Xpera, as well as follow Provincial and Federal legislation.
  • Attend court or legal proceedings as required
  • Obtain professional quality video and photographic documentation of subjects
  • Obtain information or intelligence in a legal, ethical, and confidential manner as required
  • Closely monitor the investigative progress of your team’s assignments and, in coordination with the investigator assigned to the file, make strategic changes where necessary
  • Respond to client requests with a quick, flexible, and operational approach that is based on sound strategy, and coordinated with Xpera’s policies and procedures
  • Attend staff meetings and training as required
  • Act in a consultative and advisory capacity to train, coach, monitor, and mentor Investigators; provide meaningful feedback for the purposes of growth and development
  • Schedule and assign surveillance assignments to the appropriate Investigator on your team, based on need


Qualifications & Education


  • Advanced report writing abilities
  • Has the capacity to provide accurate information and creative solutions for customers while taking ownership of decisions
  • Experience managing a team or providing training and mentorship to others
  • Knowledge of all levels of the Canadian court system, criminal and civil code in Canada, insurance law, and privacy legislation is an asset
  • Thorough, detail-oriented, organized, analytical, and a systematic thinker
  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field, such as criminology, forensic crime and intelligence analysis, sociology, psychology, etc. or former law enforcement experience is an asset.
  • Reliable and suitable vehicle appropriately insured for work purposes and a clean driving record
  • Possesses patience and persistence, ensuring quality services to our customers while managing conflicting demands from various divisions and managers; adjusts quickly to changing priorities and conditions
  • Preference will be given to those with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in field surveillance investigations
  • Has the flexibility to work irregular hours and days – evening, weekend, and holiday work will be required
  • Enthusiastic and positive, self-starter and quick learner, and creative problem solver
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with others to achieve goals
  • Previous experience working in a client focused environment
  • Hold a valid Private Investigator Security License within the applicable province of employment
  • Is prepared to work under pressure and meet demanding timelines; ability to multi-task while maintaining focus on the task at hand
  • Ability to collect, make use of, and disseminate available information as well as break down complex issues into manageable components in a timely manner for the purpose of addressing specific requirements from our clients

  • Strong command of the English language (written and oral) is essential to success in this role Professional/Technical Certification or Licenses
