EFC Developments is seeking an experienced Site Superintendent to support our operations in Edmonton.


Main Functions


The Project Superintendent will be responsible to complete all aspects of projects in this fast-paced, multi-faceted role that we are looking for. The Project Superintendent must possess the knowledge, experience, and confidence to engage and professionally interact with design professionals, consultants and client(s) while successfully completing the role of Business Development and Project Superintendent as well as other construction related personnel in planning, coordinating and safely executing the work in accordance with the contract documents, schedule and budget. The Project Superintendent works closely with the client and prime consultant for the project and fulfills an integral role on the project. The Project Superintendent must be a professional and a personable leader committed to the overall objective and self-development within the company.


Responsibilities


  • Ensure exceptional, courteous, and respectful customer service through compliance and participation in the Company’s Step Up to Customer Service Program.
  • Ensure all required municipal inspections are performed.
  • Explore, grow and develop industry networks with key influencers and leaders of corporate business, governments, real estate, architectural and engineering firms. Assess the type of tender, client and closing date to determine feasibility of the tender.
  • Incorporate all relevant details, once tender package is complete, present the package to Special Projects Manager for approval and comments.
  • Maintain and enforce good construction standards and quality control.
  • Review/approve and expedite all PCO’s and CO’s. Maintain current CO logs.
  • Inform the Consultant(s)/Client of any errors, discrepancies or omissions contained within the Consultant(s) design drawings.
  • Transmit addenda and other bid information to subcontractors.
  • Develop, monitor and maintain the project construction schedule (on a weekly basis).
  • Raise and discuss relevant issues at the job site meetings and prepare and issue minutes for all meetings.
  • Working collaboratively with the Special Projects Manager, this position will identify, pursue and establish new opportunities essential to our organizational growth within new and current markets throughout the Edmonton and Northern Alberta marketplaces.
  • Calculate and prepare quantities. Ensure value-engineering ideas are considered on every bid.
  • Review contract details relevant to the company’s ability to deliver under the contract.
  • Comply with all corporate policies/processes and procedures as well as Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) administrative rules while carrying out all projects.
  • Utilizing established client relationships and strong working knowledge of commercial construction, leverage their network of business contacts and relationships to secure new projects.
  • Comply with and participate in the Company’s Health & Safety and Quality programs and initiatives.
  • Review/approve and expedite all shop drawings/samples and approvals.
  • Maintain a tidy and orderly work area/site exhibiting pride in work performance and contributing to a healthy and safe work environment.
  • Assist in issuing monthly progress draws and invoicing to consultant and client (including holdbacks).
  • Prepare project schedules.
  • Review project requirements and assess equipment requirements.
  • Compile letters/schedules and any other items required by tender.
  • Review tender documents assessing scope, risks involved, tender complexity etc. and provide feedback to the Special Projects Manager.
  • Control and monitor labour, material and equipment expenses.
  • Conduct Site inspections for tenders understanding, analysis of conditions and identification of activities that may or may not be shown in the tender documents.
  • Monitor appropriate construction staffing levels.
  • Ensure project deficiency lists are expedited within appropriate time frame(s).
  • Source subcontractors and suppliers capable of complying with tender; prepare and send out trade packages accordingly.
  • Prepare and distribute progress reports as required.
  • Ability to research and analyze potential opportunities for growth in geographic location(s) and markets and providing the leadership team with up-to-date market trends and ongoing analysis of the current business environment.
  • Ensure completion of and track all independent inspections and testing as required.
  • Perform any other duties as required.
  • Communicate with design team/client.
  • Assist with preparation of tenders and budgets.


Qualifications And Experience


  • A Security Clearance is required as a condition of employment.
  • Anticipates patterns and links; looks beyond the immediate problem to the wider implications; generates new solutions to complex problems.
  • Minimum three years of related work experience as an Estimator for a general contractor
  • Experience and understanding of bidding, purchasing, negotiating, contracting, cash flow, expediting, receiving, and transporting.
  • Able to work collaboratively as a productive member of the EFC Developments Team.
  • Understanding of construction documents and the ability to ensure that they are complete and protect the company’s interest, clearly define expectations and provide incentive to perform.
  • Completion of Post-secondary education in Construction, or relevant trade ticket/certification - preferred
  • Proven and quantifiable business development growth in previous roles.
  • Minimum five years of related work experience as a Site Superintendent for a general contractor.
  • Able to understand and present complex ideas while anticipating potential objections.
  • Knowledge of construction costs and budgets.
  • Excellent management, contract negotiation and organizational skills.
  • Able to plan and manage to a project schedule
  • Proven ability to guide safe work practices in a high-pressure environment while maintaining project quality and consistently delivering projects on time and within the budget.
  • Familiarity with commercial construction methodology and practices.
  • Professional, punctual, meticulous and diligent.
