• ACCOUNTABILITY / OBJECTIVE:

Under the direction of the Dining Services Manager, responsible for the cleaning and sanitizing of the dishes and cutlery, the cleanliness of the dietary areas and equipment in accordance with specific standards and regulations, and assigned duties related to food service. Ensures Diversicare standards are achieved through knowledge and application of policies and procedures. Participates in Diversicare’s Continuous Quality Improvement program and supports the residence’s Vision Team initiatives

Background / Qualifications

• Ability to maintain effective oral and written communications (in English) and have a positive self-projection, nurturing excellent human relations with residents, families and other team members
• Ability to work independently as well as taking direction, a team player; flexible and versatile
• Ability to work with minimum supervision and be able to demonstrate initiative and problem solving skills
• Previous experience in food service in a hospitality setting is preferred
• Ability to use initiative in problem solving
• Knowledge of WHMIS, Food Safe required

Key Responsibilities

• Clears tables in kitchen as required
• Responsible to monitor and record dishwasher temperatures daily
• Cleans all dishes, pots and pans
• Assist in bussing and serving of food
• Maintains strict confidentiality of information
• Recognizes safety hazards and assists in maintaining a safe, neat, clean environment for residents and staff. It is every employee’s responsibility to report any unsafe work condition immediately.
• Cleans and maintains cleanliness throughout the kitchen area, cleans equipment, floors, walls, pot sink, dishwasher area, garbage containers etc.
• Accepts and signs for deliveries if required
• Participates in the Residence’s ongoing Fire Prevention, Continuous Quality Improvement, Occupational Health and Safety, and Infection Control programs as required.
• Ensures effective team communication within the residence, logs any concerns re resident behavior in communication book.
• Performs other duties as assigned in a timely and friendly manner and with an exemplary standard if skill and with a sense of responsibility
• Clears area around dishwasher - cleans dishwasher and filters
• Shares responsibility, through participation in in-service and education, in safety standards of the residence
• Disposes of all garbage/cardboard from kitchen areas
• Demonstrates outstanding public relations skills with residents, potential clients, staff and all persons visiting the residence
• Any other duties as may be assigned
• Assists in putting away all supplies when delivered
• Responsible with all staff members to actively take part in the monitoring of all residents on a regular and on-going basis to ensure their safety and well-being. This protective oversight includes the responsibility to report any unusual occurrence, concern, or change in a resident’s daily life which may affect their health or welfare. The onus is upon all employees to formally document these incidents on a “CQI Incident Report”.
