Position Summary
The Calgary Stampede Accounting department is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our team. You will be a motivated, self-starter with excellent time-management and organization skills who is excited to work closely with our Stampede partners and internal stakeholders. You will utilize your wide-ranging experience to tackle complex situations and draw on your expertise to guide the team to deliver results! You will be an integral part of the financial close process and take the lead on special projects while demonstrating attention-to-detail and excellent communication/interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
  • Other ad hoc reporting and accounting projects as required
  • Lead and review month-end close process including ensuring the accuracy and completeness of journal entries and supporting schedules for multiple reporting entities
  • Mentor and train team members
  • Aid with information gathering for annual tax filings and year-end financial statement preparation
  • Act as liaison with external auditors
  • Ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of accounting information
  • Document, develop and implement new business processes and lead accounting projects by working closely with the Operations team and other key stakeholders
  • Prepare monthly reporting package and variance analysis for multiple entities
  • Prepare and/or review monthly accrual entries, account reconciliations and financial reports
  • Initiate opportunities for areas for improvement to current processes
  • Maintain an accurate and complete trail of supporting documentation
  • Act as a key liaison with auditors and assist in preparation of the annual financial statements
  • Assist and/or review documentation and monitoring of internal controls and processes as they relate to the accounting team
Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate will be proactive, optimistic and have worked in a dynamic environment where they have experience delivering on multiple priorities, as well as:
  • Self-starter with the ability to work both independently and with a team
  • Knowledge of not-for-profit accounting principles and practices an asset
  • Experience leading a team is an asset
  • Proficiency with accounting software
  • Bachelor's degree and CPA accounting designation
  • Highly developed ability to prioritize, and manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines under pressure
  • Minimum three (3) years' applicable accounting experience, not-for-profit experience is an asset
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and well-developed problem-solving skills
  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel
  • Motivate to learn, question status-quo and encourage change when needed
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
