OnX is looking for a Senior Technical Analyst - Monitoring Tools for one of our provincial sector clients in Toronto.

Title: Senior Technical Analyst - Events Management / Monitoring Tools

Education/Experience:

Successful completion of a University degree in computer science or related field, or an approved equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Experience and knowledge in the following areas is required:

• Proficient with data lifecycles and aggregation, reporting and web dashboards.
• Experience with creating and maintaining Cherwell reports, dashboard, one-steps, integrations and APIs (or other comparable ticket systems).
• Experience in leading, designing, coordinating, implementing and supporting many large technical projects.
• Strong Experience with several of the following products: Splunk, Extrahop/Netscout, Solarwinds, SCOM, and DataDog (Grafana, Bigpanda, PowerBI visualizations) in the support, maintenance, configuration, integration, scripting/API, dashboard and reporting features.
• Thorough understanding of network performance monitoring, application performance management, high-resolution systems monitoring and IT operations analytics.
• Good knowledge on infrastructure and network protocols to gather element-level event data.
• Support of a UNIX, Windows, Linux or similar complex environment including designing, system administration, trouble-shooting, performance tuning, networking, security, and shell scripting.
• Hands-on experience with Continuous Integration tools.

• Provide event logging and historical repositories to aid in the investigation and prevention of incidents, problems and service quality issues;
• Good understanding of network performance monitoring, application performance management, high-resolution systems monitoring and IT operations analytics
• Manage new technology integrations into monitoring systems;
• Participate in the governance of application and infrastructure monitoring design, implementation, customization and support;
• Implement efficient event management processes and automation;
• Provide filtering and event correlation mechanisms to reduce event noise;
• Good knowledge on infrastructure protocols to gather element-level event data
• Experience with Splunk is an asset.
• Perform daily health checks and break/fix support on monitoring platforms;
• Design console solutions to consolidate views of service events for support staff;

Duties and Responsibilities:

Configures and maintains central monitoring platforms, including the implementation of efficient event management processes and automation.

Performs daily health checks and break/fix support on monitoring platforms, including filtering and event correlation mechanisms to reduce event noise.

Designs console solutions to consolidate views of service events for support staff.

Provides event logging and historical repositories to aid in the investigation and prevention of incidents, problems and service quality issues.

Leads a group of subject matter experts in the configuration of infrastructure and applications to send monitors, logs, stats and alerts into a central event-monitoring platform. Provides hand-on assistance, if needed.

Provides technical assessment of existing and new hardware and software products and makes recommendations for their use based on cost, suitability and performance requirements.

Monitors equipment usage and capacity. Provides information and analyses for forecasting purposes.

Participates in system development activities providing technical input to application development teams and users. Provides technical portions of formal tenders and information proposals. Provides complex technical support for existing hardware and software products. Assesses and recommends release levels and updates of system software and utilities, taking into account the impact on resource utilization and the support of existing products.

Develops procedures and provides input to standards relating to technical aspects of hardware and software.

Acts as a liaison with I.T.S users and computer vendors to identify and resolve problems.

Develops, implements and documents system software.

Participates in the short and long term planning process related to hardware, software, and capacity planning and disaster recovery.

Works with I.T.S and security personnel to establish and maintain technical aspects of system security.

Maintains a high level of technical knowledge of trends and products.

Trains and educates I.T.S. operations and technical staff, application personnel and user groups.
