Position Overview
Reporting to the Manager of Planning and Development, the Senior Planner is looking for a career working with large scale, multi-dimensional real estate development projects. The candidate is familiar with handling planning applications, liaising with City staff, researching planning policies and conducting planning due diligence through internships, academic work, or prior work experience. The candidate must be able to prioritize and handle multiple development projects and a diversified workload, including the processing of invoices and other administrative responsibilities, under short timeframes within a high-pressure environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Planning
- Conduct planning and policy due diligence, determining compliance with official plans and Municipal By-Laws.
- Assemble the necessary application materials for submissions such as minor variances, zoning by-law amendments, and site plan approvals.
- Maintain project related policy reports and conduct research into local policy changes across Ontario that might affect Gala Developments properties and properties for acquisition or reposition.
- Identify and review applicable municipal, regional, and provincial policies relevant to each project, and preparing a summary for managerial and executive review.
Consultant Coordination
- Assembly and management of the project consultant team
- Review and evaluate consultant proposals and create fee proposal comparisons for managerial and executive review.
- Identify the consultant requirements for each project; as well as preparing and submitting requests for fee proposals
- Coordinate with consultant team to ensure submission materials and deliverables are prepared on time, and that the project schedule is maintained.
Administration
- Attendance at municipal and regional public meetings, open houses, committee meetings, and council meetings in support of development applications, including preparation of meeting summaries for internal circulation
- Reviewing of project status and creating monthly monitoring updates and presentation materials
- Creating reports and presentations for managerial and executive review on project status updates.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Proficient in Excel, Word, Access, CAD/PDF, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Well organized, have the ability to effectively multi-task and have good attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Understanding in AutoCAD and GIS is considered an asset
- Minimum 5+ years relevant experience in Development Planning Processes
- Masters Degree in Urban Planning, City Studies, Geography, Public Policy, or equivalent work experience is preferred.
