Senior Mechanical Engineering Technologist

The role is responsible for design, fabrication, installation and operation of electro-mechanical devices and monitoring devices for vibration control and field measurement of tall buildings and slender structures.

Responsibilities

• Work with heavy machinery and power tools;
• Design or assist design of mechanical / electrical devices such as vibration dampers, mechanical-electrical devices, and testing devices;
• Miscellaneous metal (steel, aluminum, brass, etc.) fabrication and miscellaneous woodworking;
• Perform field measurement of buildings or structures under vibration using accelerometer, wind velocity meter, or other sensors;
• Field operation of mechanical / electrical devices such as actuators, motors, and controllers at construction sites;
• Plastics, rubber, or other material work;
• Checking / creating shop drawings for metal fabrication;

Qualifications

• 3D printing experience will be an asset;
• Construction site experience will be an asset;
• Experience with 5-axis milling machine will be an asset;
• Electrical experience is an asset;
• Strong communication skills;
• Experience working with data acquisitioning system, strain gauges, accelerometers, and/or load cell will be an asset;
• Willing to travel for site works in other provinces outside Ontario or US, if required.

• 2+ years of experience working with architectural drawings;
• 10+ years of hand-on experience in mechanical and/or heavy fabrication industry;
• Millwright: 5 years (preferred)
• Mechanical and/or electrical industry: 10 years (preferred)
• Excellent in 3D and 2D CAD with software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD etc;
• Excellent understanding of mechanical and fabrication shop drawings;
• 5+ years of experience with heavy steel fabrication and assembly;
