Purpose

To manage and lead the Mechanical Engineering team with design and engineering work for studies and projects within the mining, metals, and minerals (MMM) sector. The candidate will support the Director of Engineering and will work well with the rest of the project team and customer. The candidate will be based out of Markham, ON, with periodic visits to customer sites.

Self-motivated individuals with a desire to solve complex engineering problems, show effective team leadership and communication skills will be ideally suitable for this role.

Responsibilities

• Delegate and assign work based on skills, performance objectives and development opportunities;
• Lead, Manage and Administer the Mechanical engineering and design team;
• Recognize and reward accomplishments;
• Responsible for the Department budgets, performance and staff compensation management;
• Support workshare activities;
• Responsible for the development of departmental strategies that are consistent with the divisional and regional business plans.
• Plan training, facilitate mentoring/coaching, identify career development and succession plans;
• Support and communicate the Company’s vision, mission and goals;
• Responsible for performance management;
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives and promote innovation;
• Responsible for recruiting, selection and hiring of team members;
• Responsible for assigning leads, SME’s and functional teams for projects;
• Liaison between departments, Management team and internal/external stakeholders.

What You Will Bring

Technical and Industry Experience:

• Experience with underground mining mechanical equipment;
• Experience with mining crushing and mineral processing plants;
• Working with other disciplines, understanding engineering sequence, workflow and working with the customer on design reviews;
• Good judgment and ability to make decisions or provide clear direction to teams;
• Lead level years of technical experience in working in the mining industry and with mining equipment (above and below ground) within an consulting engineering environment preferred;
• Effective at delivering performance feedback to a wide range of experience levels;
• Applicable industry knowledge, some of:
• Working knowledge in all the relevant codes, standards and regulations;
• Exceptional performance with all aspects of communication;
• Proven ability to assign work and manage large teams;
• Experience in both green field development and brown field development and maintenance projects;
• Must have experience Supervision and Leadership skills/experience with the ability to direct and influence a team;
• Effective time management and the ability to prioritize work to meet tight deadlines;
• Demonstrated knowledge of the engineering development for projects and studies for typical mechanical and piping deliverables.
• Experience with aboveground / surface mining mechanical equipment;

Required

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

• Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering;

Preferred

• Registered with PEO as a Professional Engineer.
