Position Title: Mechanical & Materials Processing Intern
Position Length: 8-16 months (longer preferred)
Position Location: Dundas, Ontario (~50% in office/50% at home, depending on week-to-week)
Start Date: Beginning of May 2023 preferred.

We are looking for a talented, driven engineering student with an interest in recycling, processing, pyrometallurgy, materials processes, materials testing, design, fabrication, and product development. You will be given opportunities to contribute and spearhead complex innovative projects around the world in meaningful ways and collaborate with a diverse team both locally and globally.
You will quickly become a critical part of the process development team and will be given tasks that provide an immediate impact on our company’s success. As a mechanical & materials process intern, you will report directly to our lead process developers. You will be involved with projects that relate to 3D modelling and mechanical design, fabrication, high temperature process design, materials testing, and recycled product development. You will become intimately familiar with our technologies and process team workflow allowing you to drive integration and high-level improvements to the process.
Key Responsibilities:
1.Recycling furnace development project (with team)
a.Aid with the design (3D-modelling)/materials sourcing/fabrication of a proto-type scale furnace.
b.Test capabilities of proto-type furnace, and iterate on design (slag melting trials)
c.Design/fabricate production-scale furnace
2.Develop heat and mass balances
3.Testing and modifying materials for product scoping and development
a.Evaluating slag/recycled materials for suitability as cement replacements, blasting media.
b.R&D testing as new challenges arise
4.Project leading
5.Report and presentation preparation
6.Support process team on project deliverables
Key Qualifications/Attributes:
- In-Progress Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Materials/Process Engineering working towards graduating in 2023-2024
- Knowledge of heat transfer concepts (and mass transfer preferably)
- Initiative
- Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated, eager to learn, excellent organizational skills, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Analytical thinker
- Prior experience using CAD/3D modelling software (Solidworks, Inventor, etc...) to model parts and assemblies
- Must have proven skills with MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint/Keynote
- Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- Knowledge/interest in materials processing/testing/development
- Strong verbal and written communication/documentation skills
- Preferred 3 rd year +
