Project Manager - Food Process Engineering
Location: Mississauga, ON
Term: Permanent
Work Mode: Hybrid (onsite 2-3 days a week)
Hours: Monday-Friday
Salary: $110k-$120k
Travel: 20%-40%
Duties/Responsibilities:
·End-to-end project development and execution for process optimization, new product development, cost reduction, and capacity expansion initiatives.
·Develop comprehensive business proposals, project plans, allocate resources, set timelines, track budget, lead equipment installation and commissioning and manage project progress.
·Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, communicate with stakeholders to ensure successful project implementation.
·Negotiate contracts, oversee project budgets, monitor expenses, and ensure adherence to financial guidelines. Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety.
·Ensure all projects meet strict food safety and quality standards. Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to integrate quality control measures into project planning and execution.
·Stay updated on relevant food processing regulations, guidelines, and industry standards. Ensure all projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
·Lead initiatives for procuring, installing and commissioning new food processing equipment and technologies. Coordinate with vendors and stakeholders to ensure successful implementation including a training program.
·Effectively liaise with diverse stakeholders, including engineering, production, quality assurance, R&D, and external resources such as consultants, contractors, and vendors. Foster positive relationships and facilitate open communication to drive project success.
·Identify potential risks and develop contingency plans to mitigate their impact on project outcomes. Proactively address challenges to keep projects on track.
·Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including detailed specifications, contracts, schedules, meeting minutes, progress reports, key performance indicators (KPIs), and final project summaries. Present project updates to senior management as needed.
·Implement lean manufacturing principles and methodologies to drive continuous improvement initiatives. Identify and eliminate bottlenecks, reduce downtime, decrease waste, improve cycle times, and enhance overall process reliability. Monitor KPIs to track progress and evaluate the effectiveness of process improvements.
·Demonstrate an interest in investigating and implementing a variety of projects for the future of work and business continuity. Be flexible, willing to learn, and apply cross-functional duties as required by the department lead.
·Regularly visiting manufacturing facilities across Canada, with 20-40% travel required.
Qualification:
·Bachelor's degree in food engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field.
·Proven experience as a Project Manager, with a minimum of 5 years of project management experience in food manufacturing or similar sectors, demonstrating a track record of successful project delivery.
·Strong project management skills, including the ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
·Experience in commissioning and starting up automated process equipment.
·Problem-solving mindset to handle challenges in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
·Project management certification (e.g., PMP).
·Proficiency in project management tools and software.
·Self-directed and resourceful, with the ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
·Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
·Logical and structured thinking to extract insights from data and drive data-driven decision-making.
·Willingness to travel to multiple sites and engage with different shifts in operation.
·Availability for regular visits to manufacturing facilities across Canada, with 20-40% travel required.
·Flexibility to work off-hours and weekends if required.
·In-depth knowledge of food processing techniques, regulations, and best practices.
·Familiarity with food safety standards such as HACCP and GMP.
·Familiarity with Health & Safety, environmental regulations, and building/safety code standards.
·Strong knowledge of food manufacturing processes, equipment, and technologies.
·Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
·Proficiency in drafting software such as CAD and 3D modeling software.
·Ability and knowledge to work safely in a construction environment. Good understanding of Health & Safety, environmental regulations, and various building & safety code standards.
·Flexibility, agility, adaptability – Adapts to changes; changes strategy in response to new information; responds appropriately and quickly without having all parameters defined; demonstrates tolerance for speed and uncertainty.
·Demonstrated success in using appropriate interpersonal styles and methods of communication to gain agreement or acceptance of a plan or activity.
