Mohawk College is currently recruiting for our next
Professor, Office Administration
Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Liberal and Administrative Studies, the successful applicant will be expected to develop, deliver, and revise curricula at the certificate and diploma, level in collaboration with colleagues and other College departments.
The curricula consist of, but are not limited to courses in the first-year Office Administration—General Certificate courses on computer business applications, document preparation, record keeping, financial and accounting concepts, digital skills, presentation skills, client service; and all of the second-year courses in the Office Administration—Health Services Diploma, including insurance billing, medical terminology, transcription, informatics, hospital unit procedures and investigative procedures.
Responsibilities
The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Creating a positive, collaborative, and engaging learning environment, both in the classroom and online, that upholds the principles of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI).
  • Managing the educational environment to facilitate an optimal learning experience and learner success.
  • Working creatively, collaboratively, and collegially with administrators, colleagues, staff, and learners.
  • Defining, evaluating, and validating learning outcomes for courses and programs.
  • Participating in department, school, and college-wide activities/tasks as required.
  • Using a variety of teaching and learning strategies such as Experiential Learning (EL), Universal Design for Learning (UDL), adaptive technology, and alternative delivery methodologies.
  • Providing innovative educational delivery and experiences through the use of online educational technology and learning management systems (e.g., Canvas), for in-class and online delivery.
  • Delivering both theory and practical applications of the defined programs of studies.
  • Working closely with stakeholders across the institution to design, update, and deliver a variety of courses that uphold academic quality and adhere to college policies and procedures.
  • Designing appropriate assessment strategies and tools for facilitating and evaluating learner progress and achievement.
Qualifications
The successful applicant will have:
  • Experience and knowledge of the intersections of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, and Indigenous Knowledge Learning Outcomes as they relate broadly to curriculum/program development and teaching and learning.
  • A college diploma or advanced diploma in a pertinent field (an undergraduate degree and/or masters degree would be an asset).
  • Knowledge of principles of AODA and application in the working environment.
  • Experience designing curricula and/or programming.
  • Evidence of demonstrated application of adult learning principles, methodologies, curriculum design, and development.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse learners and provide a positive learning environment to learners working at different skill levels, including international learners, Indigenous learners, first-generation learners, and learners requiring accommodation.
  • Knowledge and experience with Learning Management Systems, e.g., Canvas, to enhance learning.
  • Evidence of 3–5 years of highly effective adult or post-secondary level teaching office administration or similar program.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an academic team, through the application of strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • 5–7 years of relevant work experience in an office administration environment, preferably in the field of health services.
  • Knowledge and fluency in the use of computers and related applications, e.g., the full Microsoft Office Suite, QuickBooks, etc.
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, and inclusion, with the ability to communicate and work effectively inter-culturally with diverse groups of learners, employees, and the community.
Must Also Be Able To
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to teach a variety of office administration courses. Ability to teach courses at both the Office Administration—General Certificate and Office Administration—Health Services Diploma levels will be given preference.
  • Teach in-person and on campus.
Faculty members hired at Mohawk College must be prepared to teach with a learner-centered approach and to assist in the development and application of alternate delivery methods. He/she/They may be assigned to teach classes at any College Campus and may be scheduled to teach between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
The candidate should have experience and knowledge of the intersections of indigenous education, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and Equity Diversity and Inclusion as they relate broadly to curriculum/program development and teaching and learning.
