Standard BioTools is looking for motivated Staff Mechanical Engineer who as a part of Research and Product Development team will play an essential role in development of commercial mass cytometry systems. Working as a part of a team, the successful candidate will take all important design aspects into consideration to deliver fully thought-out designs that meet or exceed the requirements. Additionally, the candidate will leverage their experience in order to help guide members of the team as well as to contribute to higher level concepts and departmental best practices. The Staff Mechanical Engineer will be a member of the Mechanical Engineering Team and interact with instrumentation scientists, electrical engineers, V&V engineers, technical writers, and production staff.
Essential Duties:

• Lead and support improvements as needed to on-market instrumentation
• Support, guide and mentor members of the team to improve overall departmental output
• Lead system level mechanical architecture discussions/decisions
• Incorporate best practices in DFM, DFA, DFS and user interaction
• Participate in and lead parts of New Product Introduction projects
• Lead module and subsystem level design from beginning of ideation to end of development process
• Ensure success of fellow departments by lending expertise as required
• Help to improve and implement departmental best practices
• Lead and participate in planning for module and subsystem development
• Complete project deliverables on time and on budget with minimal supervision
• Create accurate and complete documentation packages for both external vendors and internal customers

Qualifications:

• Excellent written and oral communication skills and a proven ability to work well on a multi-disciplinary team
• Good knowledge of Solidworks FEA packages for thermal, flow and mechanical analyses
• Excellent working understanding of Solidworks PDM and its workflows
• Demonstrated history of excellence in DFM, DFA, DFS and user interaction
• Understanding of regulated quality systems (e.g. ISO 13485) and applicable product safety standards.
• Good working knowledge of complementary disciplines eg. optical, electrical, motion systems, vacuum systems, inductively coupled plasmas
• BEng in Mechanical Engineering or similar with significant (preferably 8+ years) of design of Mass Spec instruments and/or combination of experience and education/training.
• Proficiency with Solidworks CAD
• Good initiative, critical thinker, self motivated and willing to learn
