The Enterprise Architecture team provides the services and technology our business partners need to continue to innovate for our clients and help them achieve lifetime financial security and live healthier lives. Through innovation and collaboration, we're striving to continually find new and better ways to bring value to Sun Life. Information Technology has employees in Canada, Ireland, the U.S. and Asia.
What will you do?
Working jointly with the AVP, Enterprise Architecture, Strategy & Technology Innovation and the Enterprise Architecture leadership team, and leaders globally to:
Overall Program Delivery (Large Global Programs):
  • Direct appropriate risk management practices throughout the delivery lifecycle, including leading risk assessment activities, developing mitigation strategies, and presenting solutions to executives to mitigate risks.
  • Collaborate with teams to ensure high-level & detailed plans are developed (including Agile sprint planning/reviews, celebrations, etc) that focus on successful execution & controls to achieve delivery objectives, while ensuring continued stability of the environment.
  • Consolidate, plan, execute and govern multiple delivery initiatives within the EA Office Portfolio of work.
  • Work with stakeholders & delivery teams to determine best methodology to deliver scope – Agile or Waterfall.
  • Other key / critical EA initiatives
  • Drive for action while ensuring Scope, Cost and Time are tightly managed.
  • Ensure timely communication between delivery teams and their stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with a broad range of stakeholders across the enterprise
  • Lead proactive & effective change, acceptance, and approval management processes within delivery teams.
  • The Technology Governance Platform
  • The Application Portfolio Management Platform
  • Accountable for all phases of projects from initiation to closure and ensures that best practice standards and processes set out by Sun Life’s VRO and other industry organizations, including PMI, are leveraged.
  • Act as Program Director lead to drive technology governance forward across the environments for which the EA Office is the Product Owner. These environments include:
Executive Level Interactions:
  • Document and present executive level communications describing status, financial state, direction, approach, and recommendations to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Influence and negotiate with senior executives to ensure appropriate solutions and securing agreement on direction, scope and budget.
  • Proactively escalate issues and risks that require executive attention
  • Create/foster relationships with key individuals up to and including CIO, Business leaders, Product Owners, Sponsors.
What will be required to be successful in the role?
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with executive level stakeholders.
  • Engaging teams of shared service individuals from across Sun Life globally.
  • Engaging IT and Business leaders to drive innovative, shared solutions globally.
  • 5-7 years of progressive experience in Agile or traditional project management in an Information Technology environment, as well as in the business, preferably in the financial services industry
  • Significant experience in presenting to senior level audiences
  • Organizationally savvy, with the ability to navigate through a complex matrix environment, problem solving and clearly visioning future state architecture requirements & standards in a quickly changing environment.
  • Executing a strong level of influence to ensure new initiatives are understood and adopted to align with the given strategy on a global basis.
  • Strong vendor management experience
  • Deep knowledge of agile techniques, tools and methodologies.
  • Requires strong interpersonal, communication, managerial, motivational, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Agile and/or PMP certification is strongly desired, evidence of relevant applicable education and experience will be considered
  • 3-5 years experience leading complex technical programs or large multi-faceted project initiatives.
  • Joint strategy development with cross IT and business leaders within domain / subject matter.
  • Ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders and adapt approach when dealing with technical and non-technical audiences.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
