About The Role
Our ideal candidate is a passionate advocate for our employees, our customers, the success of our team, and the technological roadmap for our organization. Working at the intersection of technology and people, they must balance the long-term direction, stakeholder delivery and individual careers of team members to ensure success in all these dimensions.
Reporting to the VP of IT Architecture and Transformation, this person will provide leadership and direction to the Enterprise and Solution Architecture team for the organization. In this role you will partner closely with senior leadership and business partner stakeholders to develop and lead a technology strategy and roadmap to meet future business requirements. You will lead a group of Managers that are leading our enterprise, solution and data architects in addition to overseeing the CI/CD best practices for software engineering. The Director will balance their time between developing strategy, leading their teams, focusing on execution, influencing improvements and driving change.
What You'll Do Here
  • Ensure the soundness of the proposed solutions of all major projects and its alignment with enterprise architecture.
  • Manage a large portfolio of projects in a variety of technologies.
  • Pursue the evolution of the architecture function into a collaborative and agile value-added partner to the business and IT stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with executive management and the architecture team in defining the architecture strategy and technology roadmap to ensure successful direction for our business.
  • Create and promote the long‐term architectural vision that is scalable and aligned with Intact's business needs and industry best practices.
  • Lead and facilitate the creation of governing principles to guide EA decision making.
  • Lead analysis of technology industry and market trends to determine their potential impact on the enterprise architecture.
  • Lead a team of Enterprise, Solution, Security, Reliability & Data Architects towards a strategic technical direction and architectural integrity.
  • Ensure alignment of IT strategy with business strategy by working closely with the enterprise’s business planning leaders.
  • Build strong inter-personal relationships with peers and other key stakeholders that can help smoothen execution.
  • Hire outstanding talent that can work in high performing teams.
  • Contribute to a great work environment by providing exemplary leadership and by mentoring our emerging leaders and managers within our Architecture teams.
  • Communicate effectively across the organization to ensure that the team is completely aligned to the business objectives
  • Develop and lead architecture best practices across the organization, partner with key stakeholders across IT and the business as required
  • Scan the external IT environment to provide a common set of planning assumptions, competitive analysis, current and future market assessments for products and services to the business, and a common set of planning processes and tools to assist those with planning responsibility in IT.
  • Help transform Intact Financial Corporation IT to a product-centric technology operating model seamlessly integrating feature development, operations, security & reliability.
What You Need
  • B.S. degree in Software Engineering or any combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Necessary financial acumen to better support judgment, business decision making and manage portfolios.
  • Proven success in budget management of large projects/portfolios and people/team resources.
  • Strong skills in critical thinking, decision making, problem solving, and attention to detail.
  • Effective at driving short-term actions that are consistent with long-term goals.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation and negotiation.
  • Bilingual (French / English) (strong asset) – Need to interact on a regular basis with colleagues across the country.
  • Strong experience in implementing Architecture standards, Governance frameworks (like TOGAF) & Technical Debt Management.
  • Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments.
  • Ability to balance the long-term ("big picture") and short-term implications of individual decisions.
  • Ability to rapidly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies.
  • Demonstrated project management abilities and leading teams through transformative change.
  • At least 10 years of experience in IT architecture for a large organization with experience in leading an enterprise architecture team.
  • Capability to maintain effective relationships within distributed architecture areas like Software engineering, labs, business groups and shared services.
  • Prior experience leading and implementing change within an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Very strong technical leadership in areas like Software Engineering, Infrastructure including Cloud, Security, Reliability, etc.
  • Prior experience of performing this role and ability to drive decisions with speed.
  • Deep understanding of software engineering principles and process along with the ability to apply this knowledge to execute projects and optimize strategies.
