Reporting to the VP Technology & IT Service Management the Director, Software Engineering (Core pension administration Systems) is accountable for ensuring the plan’s core pension administration systems meet the needs of our key business stakeholders, members and Employers and are operating in an accessible, convenient, dependable and efficient manner.
We are looking for someone with the following attributes:
- Experience collaborating with or managing complex cross-departmental teams in a Lean-Agile environment is an asset.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, flexibility and adaptability to change, decision-making and critical thinking skills
- 5-10 years working with pension or benefit data in a comparable financial environment
- Practical experience implementing Agile methods to drive team performance and a track record of success using the Agile method to deliver software products coupled with expertise/training in Scrum.
- 10+ years of application development management.
- Knowledge and experience with Pension Plan Administration Systems is a definite asset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in cloud-based software engineering in an industrial setting within a global organization (technology company preferred)
- In-depth knowledge and experience with modern full-stack software development technologies, relational databases, cloud technologies, and DevOps practices.
- Graduate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or another quantitative field
- Experience on working within compliance (e.g.: quality, regulatory - data privacy, GxP, SOX) and cybersecurity requirements is a plus
- Ability to adapt to and effectively contribute to rapid business transformation.
- Strong technology and architectural skills with exceptional knowledge of modern/current technology trends.
- Experience in coaching and leading complex agile dev teams, and building a team and culture around agile development practices within a matrix environment
Once here you will:
- Provides ownership for a strategic roadmap of business requirements and identified system enhancements for core pension administration systems
- Provide leadership and guidance to the Quality Assurance and Software Testing team, ensuring that projects and production support teams are empowered to achieve acceptance for their system changes.
- Managing of defined processes for system enhancements/ modifications of the pension administration core systems or systems that connect with the pension administration core systems
- Mentoring the next generation leaders with the Software Engineering Organization
- Providing leadership, support and oversight of the plans core pension administration systems and ensure successful implementation of strategic initiatives on time and within budget
- Experience working within the software delivery lifecycle
- Possess a strong understanding of emerging technologies and system architectures
- Responsible for building and mentoring a high-performance DevOps-enabled delivery teams
- Provide oversight for the software delivery lifecycle, testing and validation of enhancements and fixes, of priorities and sprint planning, supervising the development, testing, packaging and promotion of updates to the pension administration system as well as coordinate updates to systems that interface with the pension system
- Challenging the status quo, while working towards building an environment of rapid learning, collaboration, and successful delivery of core pension administration systems
- Provide support to development managers that are responsible for engaging business stakeholders, translating business requirements into systems requirements and technical specifications
- Evaluation software enhancement recommendations, new stakeholder requirements and proposals related to software improvement opportunities, support recommendations to the VP Technology & IT Service Management
- Provide guidance and leadership for the sustainment and growth of core pension administration systems
- Participating in the development of multi-year solutions roadmap that supports strategic initiatives and maintains the plan’s ability to execute on strategic business plans
