Collaborative Data and Software Engineering Manager sought by industry-leading Canadian Asset Management & Insurance Company.

For a journey this exciting and complex, we are looking for an experienced leader of technical professionals who can help grow and evolve our people, practice, and process.

What you will do?
As a servant leader, manage structure and people within a team of data and software engineers.

• Promote learning and encourage the team to invest in themselves to support their professional growth
• Monitor and evaluate performance by providing timely and regular feedback on personal and team goals.
• Track and monitor financial information for key activities, as required.
• Coach and mentor data and software engineers to develop a high performing, highly motivated, innovative, and engaged team of professionals.
• Effectively hire and retain talent, with a focus on sustainability and long-term needs.
• Grow strength and feel comfortable with managing ambiguity, flexibility, and nimbleness.

Develop and manage organizational expertise within the data and software engineering discipline.

• Help modernize and evolve our practice as we continue to adopt an industry-leading desktop development toolkit which integrates into a full Continuous Delivery pipeline.
• Business or technical knowledge in the data and software Engineering disciplines
• Collaborate with peers to define and evolve standards and best practices.
• Work closely with partners to ensure resource supply is properly allocated

Develop and manage the capabilities of team members through coaching, training, and mentoring

• Ensure teams have the necessary equipment and tools to successfully meet commitments
• Promote and build a cooperative team spirit and attitude
• Build team agility by assessing and anticipating knowledge/skill gaps and driving knowledge transfer and/or skill development across the engineering domain.
• Collaboration with your partners to evolve and upskill the team.
• Focus on the growth and development of practitioners and ensure alignment across the practice.
• Promote a learning environment to develop team member skills, aligning with industry trends and organization goals.

What you will need to succeed?

• 5+ years of experience in Talent Management – recruitment and selection, onboarding, coaching, performance management and development.
• Bilingualism (French, English) preferred since there are interactions with English-speaking customers or partners
• Demonstrated management and expertise with both Agile and Waterfall methodologies in a distributed development environment.
• Experience with application development, data, security, and infrastructure is a bonus.
• Strong technical and business acumen.
• Ability to create an atmosphere of trust and a comfortable/efficient work environment
• *Travel may occasionally be required to Montreal, Toronto, and/or Waterloo.
• A working knowledge of the Data and Software engineering disciplines

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
