The Engineering Manager is responsible for the supervision, departmental staffing, planning for and organizing of Engineering Department personnel. Responsibilities also include the application of Engineering principles through participation in the collection and analysis of data and the initial preparation of satisfactory designs and technical reports. The Engineering Manager must become familiar with the technical staff, methods, practices, and procedures of the company.
The primary responsibility of the Engineering Manager is to ensure the Department operates in such a way as to meet its responsibilities to the customers, the company, and the employees. In addition, the Engineering Manager should develop ways of improving the Department's and the Company's strategies and operations.
Responsibilities include however are not limited to:
- Reviewing salaries for consistency and for contractual implications.
- Approving all aspects of technical approach.
- Completing assignments within the time frame allocated without sacrificing the integrity of the end results.
- Identifying routine and special facilities needed by the Department.
- Mentoring and responding to technical questions by Engineering Supervisors, Drafters, Designers, and Engineering Staff to assist in their professional development.
- Providing accurate, on schedule engineering and design services.
- Successfully applying all capabilities to develop professionally.
- Applying standard practices and techniques in specific situations relevant to tasks.
- Coordinating the drafting efforts or subconsultant efforts required on a project. (Subject to President review.)
- Making promotion or hiring recommendations to the President.
- Obtaining information from historical records, previous projects, etc. to be utilized in analysis of specific project tasks. • Preparing departmental task hour estimates for projects.
- Developing technical solutions of assigned projects; including field observations and evaluations, research, and collection of data to be utilized in developing technical solutions.
- Ensuring all departmental work is completed with accuracy and thoroughness.
- Conducting special projects as assigned.
- Checking design calculations performed by Engineering staff.
- Cooperating with parallel activities within the firm including the other Engineering disciplines and office administrative functions.
Education and Professional Experience Requirements:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
- Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams - 7 years required; 10 years preferred.
- Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) experience is a plus.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience is strongly preferred.
- Work and experience in a production environment is a plus.
- HVAC detail / design experience is a plus.
- Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, clients, vendors, and other business contacts.
- Ability to manage time and efforts toward completing designs on time and within budget is required.
- Excellent communication skills; both oral and written is required.
- Daily engineering work, including mechanical and/or electrical - 7 years required; 10 years preferred.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or related field preferred.
