Our client is a large, privately held firm in the Greater Peterborough, ON area. They are a global industry leader in highly engineered die-cast and tooling technologies. They are seeking a Tooling & Engineering Manager to lead their operation. This individual is responsible for providing complete oversight for the direction, planning, and management of all tooling and engineering operations at the plant level. This is a highly collaborative role that serves on the leadership team, partnering with other functional leads in creating and implementing the strategic direction of the company.
Duties include:
- Review and approve engineering project or product documentation and engineering analysis for consistency and accuracy. Review and screen product development requests for feasibility and completeness.
- Lead and manage a large team of engineers, machinists, and tool makers.
- Ensure engineering department supports sales and marketing activities including providing designs, prototypes, and technical presentations in a timeframe which satisfies the customer.
- Ensure design verification, qualification and reliability test plan execution for new all new products developed.
- Drive continuous improvement in the die casting and tooling process to improve efficiency of time, overall cost, and establish an environment that encourages creativity and value generation.
- Drive Product Development Plan (PDP) execution on new products in time-to-market and quality performance vs. prior year.
- Ensure plant personnel, sales/marketing and other appropriate personnel are notified on product changes, modifications, and extensions.
The ideal candidate will possess the following characteristics:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or other relevant field
- At least 7+ years of experience in tooling, die-casting or engineering within a manufacturing environment
- 5+ years in the tooling or die casting industry
- 5+ years of leadership experience. Experience managing direct reports is required
- Demonstrated ability to drive and execute new technologies aligned to the needs of the technology roadmap and market needs, while also driving lasting continuous improvement efforts, and introduce automated processes
- Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt Certification preferred
