The IT Finance team is responsible for providing financial advice to all areas of IT including the Global Chief Information Officer (CIO) and the Global CIO Leadership team, delivering accurate and comprehensive financial data and reports on expenses/expense performance, maintaining expense policy and accounting systems as well as building and maintaining a strong internal control environment to support risk management and the attainment of business objectives. Manulife’s global technology function has $1.8bn of annual direct operating spend in Information technology, infrastructure and related initiatives. The IT expense base is spread across 5 segments (Asia, Canada, Corporate, US, and Global Wealth and Asset Management), multiple business lines, multiple shared service centers and numerous product lines globally. The expense base is complex and spans over 12,000 FTEs, 1500+ applications and 500+ vendors.
Key Responsibilities
The Global Head of IT Finance is recruiting an experienced and highly motivated Director to support Group Function clients. In this client facing advisory role, the incumbent will support our Global Infrastructure group – Enterprise Technology & Services (ETS). Alongside traditional financial planning and analysis activities, the Director will provide superior financial advice on business matters including expense efficiencies, business casing, application and infrastructure costing and chargebacks. As a key member of the Group Finance team, you will also play an active role on various projects with global reach, including improving global functional reporting, applications costing, project reporting and standardizing Global IT reporting. This position is a key leadership role on the IT Finance team and responsibilities include:
  • Take a leadership role in the coordination and execution of the annual budgeting and forecasting cycle
  • Prepare quarterly financial reporting package. Present financial results to senior leaders and provide commentary on variances, trends and key metrics. This includes comparison to external benchmarks, internal measures for distribution to senior management, etc.
  • Lead and participate in projects across Group Finance; this would include building dashboards in Oracle Business Intelligence, improving cost allocations, standardizing and streamline project reporting, etc.
  • Enable stakeholders to effectively manage expenses by providing sound financial advice and insight; this includes providing transparency into the drivers of spend, insight into projects, expense management activities, etc.
  • Work to continuously improve processes to gain efficiency in production, standardize and enhance quality of information. Support implementation of the Expense Finance in Transformation (ExFit) program for the IT Finance team. Provide key input on direction of the ExFit program on point of arrival for IT Finance and impacts for IT finance team.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the finance advisory function by enhancing client experience with Finance, identifying best practices, partnering with peers to standardize and streamline processes, etc.
  • Partner with Divisions to understand and report on the global functional spend
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, Education
  • Strong accounting and systems knowledge
  • Professional accounting designation or MBA or equivalent experience
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • People leadership experience with passion for coaching and development, commitment to employee engagement and ability to motivate others to accept progress and change.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage priorities in a demanding and result-oriented environment
  • Team player, collaborative, self-starter, well-organized, innovative, and high level of initiative
  • Undergraduate degree (Accounting, Business, Economics or Finance preferred)
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts and results in a clear, concise, easy to understand manner

  • Financial modeling skills
  • Passion for leading change and making things better – through simplification, standardization and automation.
  • 7+ years progressive experience within finance; prior experience in IT Finance a plus
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Salary & Benefits
The annual base salary for this role is listed below.
Primary Location
Toronto, Ontario
Salary range is expected to be between
$100,500.00 CAD - $180,900.00 CAD
