Scope

Reporting to the General Manager, Engineering, the Director, Operations ensures the continuous operation, maintenance and serviceability of City water, sanitary sewage, storm water, solid waste, fleet and garage and roads systems. The Director, Operations is responsible for the management, leadership and administration of the Engineering Operations Division, which includes over 350 employees, and serves as a member of the Engineering Department's senior administrative team in the development and implementation of departmental and Council policies and projects.

The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Diploma in Technology from a recognized university or college, and a minimum of 15 years of related experience, including 5 years in a management level role in public works; an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, will be considered. Current membership with the Engineers and Geoscientists of BC or CPWA/APWA or AScT Registration would be an asset.

The role requires excellent interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills along with an ability to exercise sound judgement and make evidence-based decisions. The candidate will be an inclusive, forward thinking and transparent leader who motivates and engages others.
