Job Description

Our client is looking for a Head of Engineering & Technology for their Fintech start-up. This is a hybrid position in Toronto or Montreal.


The Head is responsible for building and overseeing our client's technology vision and strategy by providing thought leadership on overall system architecture, ensuring they are building a platform that is secure, easy to maintain, and easy to scale.


role:

  • Own the roadmap for all things data including the architecture, infrastructure, and setting the team up for upcoming Data Science initiatives aligned to the overall priorities.
  • Management of an offshore enterprise implementation team through the evolution of our modern back-end lending platform.
  • Owner of InfoSec, working closely with our fractional CISO partner to implement security best practices and controls.
  • Lead the technology engineering team that will deliver on a broad range of exciting initiatives across Data, Data Science, and an API first platform, and customer facing solutions.
  • Be ready to roll up your sleeves, we’re still small so it’s all hands on deck!
  • Advocate for agile practices that enable iterative development, short release cycles, and quick experiments.


What you'll need

  • Experience working on financial products or products in similar regulatory environments.
  • An “owners” mindset: You don’t say, “not my problem” and you don’t expect it from your colleagues. You help everyone across the organization achieve their goals.
  • Technical expertise: The ability to drive architecture and technology decisions while leading and inspiring engineering teams.
  • Experience designing and developing Machine Learning systems and models.
  • People management experience: 4+ years of experience in people management of technology teams.
  • Technology stack: Some hands-on experience coding in python so you can jump as needed, or contribute to building POCs. ReactJS is also nice to have.
  • InfoSec: Experience collaborating with an InfoSec team or other practical experience with InfoSec best practices.
  • Vendor management: Proven track record in managing third-party teams across geographies and timezones, ensuring the team is highly motivated and maintaining high productivity.
  • Technology experience: Minimum of 7+ years of building and shipping successful and innovative products that customers love.
  • Exposure to customizing Salesforce. This work is owned by an offshore team but some experience would be a nice bonus.
  • Early-stage company experience: 1-2 examples of bringing complex new products or companies to market.
