Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this is a 14-month term position, covering a parental leave. It is directly responsible for managing the Business and Destination development portfolios which include all sport tourism, meetings and conventions, live events, travel trade and development initiatives for Tourism Prince George. The position is ideal for an autonomous, independent decision-maker who is passionate about helping Prince George grow as a destination. The Director must be capable in their abilities and experience to balance both economic and community development through a tourism focus to ensure Prince George’s visitor economy benefits both community residents and visitors alike.The ideal candidate will have experience and understanding in building and managing relationships with a diverse and complex network of internal and external stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Business Development
·Implements the City-Wide Conferences, Sport Sales, and Live Event marketing initiatives in collaboration with the Tourism Prince George Marketing team, to build awareness, promote participation and drive tourism in Prince George.
·Devise strategies to improve hosting reputation of Prince George and promote the community as a location of choice.
·Research and recommend new technologies and advancements that keep the organization current in sales and event attraction trends.
·Manage pre & post conference meetings and maintain ongoing communication with clients during their events.
·Oversee site visits with clients showcasing facilities and attractions in Prince George.
·Implement sales programs to bring events into Prince George, concentrating on low hotel occupancy times.
·Research sales trends, the competition and sales opportunities in order to promote our venues effectively.
·Maintain and grow relationships with key stakeholders in the conference, sport and live events sectors.
Destination Development
·Develop, deliver and manage progress of destination development plans and strategies aligned to the organizations priorities: accessibility, sustainability, indigenous tourism and experience development.
·Identify patterns and commonalities among multiple complex tourism ecosystems to support collaboration and the exchange of information between stakeholders.
·Manage relationships with key internal and external partners (e.g., provincial, regional, and city destination marketing organizations (DMOs), stakeholders, media and creative agencies, other suppliers) as required to execute projects.
·Collaborate with internal team members to identify and address solutions to key destination development barriers.
Human Resources and Administration
·Direct Report:Event Attraction Specialist
·Collaborating with the CEO, recruit, train and manage the performance of all direct reports by clarifying expectations, managing performance (Annual Tactics, KPI’s, and reporting methods for Business Development and Destination Development) and by supporting their growth and engagement within the organization.
·Effectively manage monthly and quarterly budget processes including review and forecasts for Business Development and Destination Development tactics
Qualifications:
·Post-secondary education in tourism management, business management, economic development or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (5 or more years)
·A minimum of 3 years in a senior leadership role with team leadership, evaluating data, financial responsibilities and budget management.
·Proven experience and ability in stakeholder and organizational relationship building with a focus on prioritization of support and negotiation: work with elected officials, governments, councils, agencies and other tourism industry stakeholders, and internal colleagues.
·Passionate about the Prince George area, with a strong knowledge/understanding of the tourism and hospitality industry.
·Strong knowledge/understanding of marketing principles.
·Demonstrate strong written and oral communications skills, that encourage exchanges of information to foster knowledge and understanding.
·Exceptional organizational, project management and time management capabilities with a strong attention to detail.
·Proficient use in Microsoft Office applications; experience in other programs related to marketing or digital document development considered an asset.
·Prior experience in destination marketing organization is an asset.
·Prior experience with SimpleView or other CRM program an asset.
·Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
Employment Details:
·Full-time, Monday to Friday role, with some requirements for evenings or weekend work due to event schedules.
·Some travel required for conferences, tradeshows, functions and events.

·Salary range $70,000.00 to $80,000.00
