Our client, BCI - the Investment Manager of Choice for British Columbia’s Public Sector, is expanding to include a Director, Compliance for their Investment arm. The Director, Compliance reports to the VP, Chief Compliance Officer and has 4-6 direct reports. The preferred locations for this role are Victoria or Vancouver but BCI will also look at individuals from Toronto who are open to traveling to Victoria as required. BCI offers a hybrid schedule giving you the flexibility to work from home up to two days a week.
Snapshot of the Role:
· The Director, Compliance function supports BCI’s global investment activities, which includes an active public markets trading desk as well as private markets asset classes.
· The Director, Compliance supports the VP by providing oversight and direction over the day-to-day activities in the investment compliance functions, handling complex compliance issues, and ensuring compliance department projects are successfully executed.
· The Director, Compliance plays a key role in ensuring deliverables and goals are achieved, as well as the smooth operation of the Compliance branch.
· The Director, Compliance works closely with portfolio managers, traders, legal counsel, risk management as well as technology and trading operations professionals.
Requirements
About You:

You can work in a high paced environment and have proven ability to work with cross-functional stakeholders to enhance compliance controls, assess risks and address concerns. You have exceptional leadership and management skills. You are well versed in reporting and presenting to senior leaders. You can drive change and be a key participant in setting the organizational tone.
Your Key Qualifications:
· University Degree in Finance, Business, Law, or equivalent.
· CFA designation preferred.
· 10+ years in the investment compliance function or equivalent experience providing advanced knowledge of the buy-side investment compliance, trade surveillance, and investment related regulations.
· Experience in monitoring investment guidelines, statement of investment policies and procedures (SIPP) or equivalent of investment vehicle documents.
· Deep knowledge of the investment and capital market industry, gained with an institutional investor, pension fund, financial institution, or capital market regulatory body.
· Strong skills in Bloomberg AIM or Charles River Development systems that are used by asset managers for investment compliance monitoring.
