Job Description

We are a passionate Destination Marketing & Management Organization looking for a new member of our dynamic team!

Over the last year, Tourism Revelstoke has expanded its mandate to focus on destination management and sustainability. To this end, we created a Destination Management Plan (DMP), and a key focus of this role will be to pursue implementation of the plan and its initiatives, along with the initiatives in Tourism Revelstoke’s Greenstep Sustainability Plan.

This position and role are relatively new for Tourism Revelstoke, which presents a great opportunity for the right candidate to help develop strategy and momentum behind destination management in Revelstoke.

We work closely and in collaboration with: The Revelstoke Chamber of Commerce, City of Revelstoke Economic Development, Revelstoke Mountain Resort, Parks Canada, local clubs, and a diverse range of tourism stakeholders. We work with Kootenay Rockies Tourism regionally, Destination BC provincially, and Destination Canada nationally.

You should be extremely passionate about our community and Revelstoke as a whole, be outgoing, on-brand, and ready to step into a highly motivated team.

Key Responsibilities:

●Rallying community and stakeholder support for the DMP actions and ensuring that the plan is followed and revised as necessary.

●Working with our community and stakeholders to identify and support initiatives and events that are aligned with our Destination Management Plan.

●Managing the Destination Management Budget.

●Ensuring that the DestinationRevelstoke.com website remains current and updated.

●Managing Tourism Revelstoke’s Sustainability Committee.

●Leading the efforts of the Climate Action Coalition.

●Working with the marketing team to develop creative campaigns to support sustainability and regenerative tourism.

●Writing our Tourism Talks column and ensuring that destination management objectives are communicated to the broader community.

●Reviewing Tourism Revelstoke’s activities and budgets to ensure that actions are value aligned and that every dollar spent by the organization goes above and beyond just “promotion”.

●Identifying and applying for relevant grants to support our activities.

●Managing contractors specific to destination management initiatives.

The right candidate will be:

●Self-motivated and independent.

●A proven leader.

●Organized and able to manage a dynamic workload.

●Capable of managing and reporting on budgets.

●Resourceful and creative.

●Able to connect with the community and rally support.

●Passionate about Revelstoke and our future as a community.

Requirements:

●Experience in working with and managing budgets.

●Strong written and spoken communication skills.

●Experience in a non-profit organization.

●Leadership and/or management experience.

Nice to Haves:

● Experience in a Destination Marketing/Management Organization.

●A background in the tourism industry and an understanding of the tourism sector in British Columbia.

●Experience as a volunteer and/or board member in community organizations.

●Experience in Squarespace, WordPress, Canva, and Adobe Creative Suite.

●An understanding of municipal governance.

●Post-secondary education in Sustainability, Tourism, Community Planning, Environmental Sciences, or a similarly relevant program.

The Details:

●General expectations for this position are to work 35 hours/week.

●The salary range is $50,000 - $60,000 depending on experience.

●Remote work is possible on occasion; however, the selected candidate must reside in Revelstoke and will be expected to spend time in the office in downtown Revelstoke working in collaboration with the Tourism Revelstoke team.

●Full benefits package.

●Revelstoke Mountain Resort Summer & Winter Seasons Passes (and a flexible schedule so that you can use it)!

To Apply:

Please submit your resume to [email protected] and accompany with a cover letter that answers the following questions:

  1. What do you see as the biggest challenge facing the tourism industry over the next 5 years?
  2. What destination or region do you think is an exemplary leader in destination management, sustainability, or stewardship?
  3. What do you think is the best way to drive positive change in our community?

A bit more about the role:

We work in a new office above the Visitor Information Centre. This is a full-time permanent position. Even though our work is flexible, we absolutely LOVE where we live, our team, and what we do, so we’re not looking for a fully remote hire.
