The Office of the Registrar is responsible for student recruitment and admissions, direct and online service to current students, including registration, financial aid, scholarships, academic assessments, graduation and petitions. It also provides course scheduling, administration of tests and exams, enrolment data analysis and business intelligence.

Your opportunity:
Working under the direction of Manager, Systems and Data Analytics, you will be responsible for creating and running queries to support data needs for staff and senior management, creating custom reports and visualization, analyzing data and presenting results to inform management decision making, developing and maintaining data visualization/dashboards using Tableau and Power BI, conducting complex statistical analysis, writing reports and making recommendations.
The role will respond to the given priorities, assist with maintaining Systems and will work collaboratively with the Data Analysts, Business Intelligence team in a challenging and dynamic environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Maintaining a database (ROSI, internal databases, etc.)
- Running queries to gather data
- Coordinating tasks for projects and other strategic initiatives with stakeholders
- Writing complex specifications based on system requirements and writing scripts to automate reports and processes
- Generating reports
- Entering course and/or program information in the Student Information System (ROSI) using scripts and queries
- Conducting detailed data analysis to inform management decision-making using Business Intelligence/Analytics Tools such as Power BI and Tableau
- Analyzing complex statistical reports and/or financial information for management decision-making (using SAS, R, SPSS)
Essential Qualifications:
- Advanced knowledge of Excel to manipulate data and make sense out of the data.
- Strong technical skills: understanding of relational databases, creating scripts for performing batch uploads, and experience with Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
- Ability to make meaningful stories from data.
- Excellent knowledge of student information systems or other relational databases.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet competing priorities with the highest level of accuracy.
- Ability to utilize statistical tools to conduct regression analysis, correlation studies and other statistical analysis.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
- Minimum four (4) years of relevant experience supporting data-driven decision making by conducting detailed data analysis and using large datasets, preferably in a post-secondary education or research-intensive institution.
- Applicants are also expected to show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment.
- Bachelor's Degree with a background in statistics, mathematics, computer science or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong oral and written communications skills to explain complex statistical information to decision makers, probe for information to establish needs and respond to request, and communicate data query requirements to other Data Analysts.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Advanced knowledge and experience using SQL.
Assets (Nonessential):
- Experience working with student data in higher education environment.
- Experience working with Azure Data Studio and Power BI.
- Experience developing data visualizations using Tableau dashboards for higher education.
- Working knowledge of University of Toronto systems (Student Information Systems (ROSI), Degree Explorer, eMarks, Web Scheduler, eService, Slate).
