Compensation Range


$5,468.83 - $7,878.17 CAD Monthly


The Compensation Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Summary


The Climate Solutions Research Collective is a new UBC initiative to foster internal engagement between climate researchers; catalyze new interdisciplinary climate research collaborations focused on climate change adaptation and mitigation challenges; and, support graduate students and faculty in applying scholarly research and expertise towards climate change solutions. The Program Coordinator is required to manage and administer the new initiative initiative and assist in the development of new research collaborations and funding proposals. The successful candidate will have proven program management experience, experience in research environments and strong communication skills. The position is initially for two years with the possibility of extension.


Organizational Status


The Program Coordinator reports to the Climate Solutions Research Collective Director. In addition, they will facilitate communication among the steering committee, graduate Solutions Scholars, and climate researchers across the two UBC campuses.


The Coordinator will manage and be responsible for program communications, identifying and coordinating new funding proposals, and the ongoing administrative, organizational, financial and human resources aspects of the Collective.


Work Performed
  • Responsible for the conceptualization and implementation of projects for the Collective. Collaborating in the establishment of core project activities, project timelines, budgets, milestones and deliverables.
  • Managing and/or participating in proposal writing and submission processes: providing administrative content, while delegating scientific content to faculty and fellows
  • Developing content for website and social media, including stories about Collective workshops, seminars, and people (including the Solutions Scholars)
  • Overseeing project progress against project timelines and budgets, liaising as necessary, and ensuring that timelines are met and milestones achieved. Following up and taking action, solving problems to ensure project targets are met
  • Managing and participating in the program events, including the catalyzing research workshops and the seminar series, the annual recruitment of graduate Solutions Scholars
  • Working with the Director, Steering Committee and UBC Research on long-term strategic planning and long-term redevelopment, including identifying external sources of funding for the Collective activities, new external partners, and future priority focal areas
  • Identifying and promoting funding opportunities that support new climate research collaborations and partnerships, including federal research granting agencies as well non-government funding opportunities
  • Identifying and implementing effective approaches for coordinating communications between climate researchers across the two UBC campuses
  • Coordinating with communications and public relations teams across participating faculties and departments
  • Directing and coordinating communications and information exchange between the Collective, the UBC community, and the public nationally and internationally, via:


Consequence of Error/Judgement


This position is critical to the development and ongoing success of the new initiative and to the development of a fully-functioning new network of climate researchers across campus. The work of the CSRC program coordinator is subject to review by the CSRC Director. Error or poor judgement in the management of the project budget, schedules and resources and poor performance in any of the core areas of responsibility, could undermine the new initiative activities and limit the development of new research initiatives and funding opportunities.


Supervision Received


Work activities will be developed in conjunction with the Director, who is advised by a Steering Committee. The Program Coordinator will receive direction from Director, but also expected to demonstrate initiative in planning and carrying out administrative activities (after initial direction). Policies and procedures will be developed in consultation with the Director regarding recruitment, budgeting and administrative concerns.


Supervision Given


The Coordinator is responsible for program management to meet the demands of the participating faculty and Vice President, Research and Innovation.


Minimum Qualifications


Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of three years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Master degree in relevant disciplines. Minimum of three years of experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience in project management and coordination. Training, educations of research experience in climate research is preferred.


Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to analyze problems, identify key information and issues, and effectively resolve. Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities.
