The Associate, ESG Investing will be actively involved with ESG Investing team and the Investment Team to continue the development and implementation of CPC’s Responsible Investment (RI) strategy. Is familiar with the investment industry, such as management, investment dealers or brokers and public pension plans and knowledgeable with capital markets.


Job Responsibilities


Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Associate, ESG Investing.


  • Builds and maintains internal databases, financial systems and models as well as streamline operational processes.
  • Analyzes market sectors to identify and evaluate potential investments and to identify and analyze key areas of risks and opportunity on specific ESG factors; Responsible for analysis of funds, companies and transactions.
  • Prepares portfolio company reviews and other internal reports. Performs administrative tasks such as filing, binder creation for new investments, other ad hoc administration, and reporting as required; Supports Pension Investment projects when and as required.
  • Responsible for supporting the completion of the ESG Due Diligence Template for new investment opportunities alongside other team members.
  • Responsible for handling daily administrative issues related to CPC’s RI strategy.
  • Prepares the Investment Memos for GM/ Director meetings and the Investment Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Attends and contributes to Pension Investment team and ESG Working Group meetings which involve discussing ESG industry updates, providing helpful ESG insights across asset classes.
  • Prepares the Quarterly Investment ESG Reports for each investment in the portfolio; Ensures the data accuracy and timeliness of ESG analysis across portfolios; Updates and manages ESG assessment criteria periodically. Reviews information memorandums and management presentations.
  • Develops relationships with potential target fund managers and key intermediaries; Attends meetings with internal and external managers to evaluate and assess responses to questions to track record, strategy and lessons learned to identify potential investment opportunities; Supports the portfolio management of investments, including developing direct relationships with fund and co-investment management teams.
  • Assists Portfolio managers in the development and maintenance of tools to ensure that ESG considerations are adequately integrated in the investment and monitoring activities of CPC’s private and public market investments, to generate value-added investment strategies.


Qualifications


Education


  • Completion of post-secondary (College/University) courses may be required
  • Completion of secondary school according to provincial standards or equivalent (GED)


Experience


  • No previous work experience is required


Other Candidate Requirements


  • Prior experience conducting ESG analysis at a pension fund or asset manager is an asset
  • Proficient computer skills and competent with Microsoft Office programs
  • Strong organizational, prioritization and time-management skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
