The HR Governance Program Manager is responsible for designing and executing governance programs to comply to Sun Life Policies. These policies include regulatory compliance management, privacy, information management, advanced analytics, business continuity, and supplier risk management. This role supports the Operational Risk and Compliance Officer in all governance related matters and activities.
What will you do?
  • Create an annual plan to deliver key activities to assure compliance at the direction of the Risk and Compliance Officer
  • Oversee monitoring and periodic testing of controls to ensure adherence to Sun Life Policies and relevant regulations
  • Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes; maintain an inventory of risks, regulations, and associated controls
  • Monitor action plans and escalate issues and risks to the Risk and Compliance Officer
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of program reporting
  • Lead risk assessments: research and make practical recommendations to improve processes and controls
  • Evaluate internal and external frameworks, policies, and standards to determine the relevant compliance requirements and controls. Identify any gaps between the desired level of compliance and the current level of maturity.
  • Interpret and provide advice to HR colleagues on risk and governance policies, changes in legislation and regulatory requirements, including the identification of risk, potential impacts to the business and recommended actions, in partnership with Legal, Risk, Compliance and other key Sun Life business partners
  • Identify and resolve any issues of non-compliance
  • Develop and deliver the appropriate level of documentation, communication, awareness, and training to reasonably assure compliance to assigned programs
What you need to succeed?
  • Experience in Human Resources is an asset
  • University degree or college diploma in Risk Management, Human Resources Management, or another related field
  • Experience with complex processes and projects
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with leaders
  • Risk and compliance related certifications such as privacy, audit etc. is preferred
  • Experience using Archer is an asset
  • Financial services experience is an asset
  • Relevant work experience in governance, compliance and/or audit
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including strong Excel skills is required
  • Excellent communication skills, able to decipher complex concepts in a meaningful way based on the recipients
  • Ability to influence others without direct authority to meet deadlines

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
