Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • 5 to 7 years direct applicable experience in the management and leadership of technical projects from conception to successful implementation.
  • Must have good organizational skills, be a self-starter, team player and an active listener.
  • General powertrain, or specific automotive transmission product design experience an asset.
  • Must be able to communicate fluently in both written and spoken English and possesses strong presentation, interpersonal and negotiating skills
  • Proficient with CAD (Pref. SolidWorks and DraftSight). Must possess sound knowledge and ability to use various PC based computer applications.
  • Knowledge of CNC machining, metal forming and joining an asset.


Key Responsibilities


  • Provide leadership and project control from initial concept design and feasibility assessment through to start of production.
  • Meet APQP requirements for assigned scope of projects
  • Maintain proper filing system (including electronic/computer files) to ensure all information is properly stored and easily retrieved.
  • Perform supervisory control over assigned personnel.
  • Support the completion of all RFQ’s on a timely basis while meeting the customer’s requirements.
  • Perform other assignments from time to time as management so directs.
  • Manage prototype builds to assure that product design, manufacturing, assembly and other problems are detected at the earliest stages of the product development cycle.
  • Initiate plans and ideas for cost reduction and/or quality improvement measures.
  • Participate in GPMS meetings to ensure that commitments made to customers are properly addressed and fulfilled through use of APQP processes and IATF 16949, including verification that all customer approvals are obtained.
  • Rework, Scrap, Waste, House cleaning initiatives to reduce cost
  • Define specification, the statement of work, and procurement of various quotations for approval.
  • Manage activities related to prototype part delivery, and ensure PPAP commitments are met as promised / expected by the customer.
  • Comply and participate in monthly Health & Safety quiz.
  • APQP process (DFMEA, PFMEA, DFA, DFM, VE/VA, SPC), Continuous Improvement activities, OEE activities and supports / complies with company GPMS requirements
  • Comply and participate with suggestions and Continuous Improvement Program at MSM.
  • Plan, co-ordinate, lead, and participate with various multi-disciplined teams addressing objectives associated with the manufacturing and assembly process, productivity, volume outputs, scrap and rework, quality, safety, and delivery commitments.
  • Provide engineering support to other departments within the Company as directed by the Engineering Manager.
  • Observe standards for safe working conditions as outlined in the Occupational health & Safety Act as well as rules and regulations outlined in the employee handbook.
  • Quality initiatives such as IATF 16949, Q1, and ISO14001
  • Direct designers, engineers and is responsible for reviewing all drawing information.
  • Travel outside the city/country will be required. Work “off-site” at a customer location for varying periods of time may be required.
  • Initiate contact with new suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Develop and or maintain documentation and actions to include but not limited to:
  • Lead quotations for new business.
  • Develop, maintain and execute implementation plans for new equipment.
