ESG Analyst

What is the opportunity?

The RBC Global Asset Management (GAM) Corporate Governance & Responsible Investment (CGRI) team works to help integrate material environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations more formally into the investment process. The CGRI team oversees and contributes to activities at RBC GAM related to corporate governance and responsible investing, including ESG integration, client reporting, proxy voting, engagement, and ESG thought pieces and presentations.

What will you do?

• Contribute to thought leadership and reporting requirements consistent with RBC GAM’s responsible investment commitments
• Engage with companies and issuers on material ESG factors, as needed
• Working with fellow analysts, conduct analysis and execute proxy voting activities for RBC GAM funds and client accounts
• Conduct presentations as needed
• Respond to client inquiries on responsible investment and contribute to client reporting initiatives
• Assist investment teams with the integration of ESG considerations into the RBC GAM investment process and active stewardship activities (proxy voting and engagement)

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have

• Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate and present complex concepts in a clear and simple manner
• Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy and attention to detail
• Experience working in an unstructured, complex, and challenging environment that forces development of problem solving and critical thinking skills
• CFA charterholder or pursuing the CFA charter designation
• Strategic, problem solving mindset, along with experience in analysis to support decision making
• Experience working effectively in teams, while taking ownership of individual projects
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
• Knowledge of ESG issues with a good understanding of financial markets and responsible investment
• 3-5 years of relevant experience

Nice to Have

• Experience with ESG-related regulations, either regionally or globally
• Experience with Python and/or R and/or Matlab and/or Database development experience (SQL Server) and knowledge in data analytics
• Experience in proxy voting analysis and execution
• Experience with thought leadership and ability to draw on intellectual capability and past experiences in order to support decisions
• Experience with ESG data and services such as ISS, Glass Lewis, MSCI and/or Sustainalytics
