The Vice President, People & Culture (VPPC) reports directly to the President and CEO and is part of the Executive Management Team.
This influential role sets the cultural tone, enabling ESA to attract, engage, develop, and retain a highly educated, skilled, and experienced workforce.
The Vice President of People & Culture leads and directs the entire Human Resources function, including planning, developing, implementing, and maintaining people & business management strategies, policies, programs, and services.
ROLE DESCRIPTION
- Oversee Total Rewards programs, ensuring competitive market data and timely salary reviews, and manage data administration between HR and payroll in compliance with relevant legislation.
- Responsible for working with the Executive Team to develop and implement Human Resources strategies that support ESA’s strategic and operational plans and continue the process of culture change at ESA.
- Cultivates labour relationships as a facet of organizational development, supporting ESA’s objective of creating change across the enterprise – through and with the involvement of union members.
- Direct Talent Acquisition by assessing and optimizing existing tools, technology platforms, and recruitment processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Overall accountability for ensuring that ESA has the appropriate systems in place to address current and future resourcing needs.
- Works closely with the People, Culture & Governance Committee and the Board of Directors on all strategic pension related matters.
- Responsible for leading the People & Culture Team that provides service to executives, managers, and employees; the VPPC continually looks for improvements in service delivery and Human Resources systems that will benefit management and employees.
- Ensure performance management processes align with ESA's strategies and goals, provide guidance on performance issues, disputes, and disciplinary situations, and act as a conflict management and resolution facilitator.
- Provide oversight for pension and benefits programs, analyze financial impacts, lead annual contract renewal negotiations, and ensure robust communication.
- Accountable for achieving collective agreements that align with the mandate approved by the Board of Directors.
- Provides trusted advice and influence to the President and CEO and the Executive Management Team (EMT).
- Responsible for reporting to the Board on Human Resources issues impacting on employees and ESA’s business and operational objectives.
- Responsible for overseeing the grievance arbitration processes, administering collective agreements and developing effective working relationships with employee representatives.
- Lead transformative change initiatives that drive organizational growth and strategy implementation.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Organization Development experience and a proven ability to drive change in a unionized environment;
- Communication and presentation skills to present information to staff and stakeholders;
- Strong business acumen; strategic; strong conceptual and analytical skills;A positive attitude toward diversity;
- The ability to create and present complex and strategic information at the board level and an ability to respond appropriately to questions at the governance level.
- A background as a business leader with experience in the functions that comprise the portfolio;
- Executive compensation experience is highly desirable; and
- A collaborative leadership style;
- Knowledge of business or strategic planning processes;
- Experience in executive leadership of the Human Resources function in a mid-sized organization or divisional leadership in a large organization;
- Experience with performance management tools;
- Exposure to HRIS systems and the use of technology to add value and efficiency.
- Ability to listen effectively and build strong relationships;
- Negotiation skills to resolve conflicting priorities and ensure successful delivery of strategic goals and programs;
- Experience reporting to the top-level of responsibility in an organization, including interfacing with a board of directors;
- Goals;
- A graduate degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field;
- Experience in a regulatory, technical or quasi-public sector operating culture where getting it done right and in accordance with the interests of stakeholders takes priority;
- Leadership skills to establish direction, align people, and build commitment towards achieving
- Labour relations/negotiations experience;
