Position Summary
TheVice President, Financeoversees HomeEd’s finance, accounting, compliance and risk management activities. As a member of HomeEd’s executive team, this individual will play an instrumental role in the management and growth of the organization. The position requires strategic thinking and leadership abilities, alongside strong financial acumen and attention to detail.
It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be appointed as HomeEd’sChief Financial Officer. If appointed as an Officer of the Corporation, the individual will be expected to undertake the obligations and authorities identified under HomeEd’s governance framework.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as a member of the executive team, actively contributing to the development and improvement of corporate strategies, policies, and positions.
- Manage the use, maintenance, and upgrade of financial and information technology systems. Assess the opportunity for, and lead the implementation of advanced analytics, digitization, and/or automation of work activities.
- Lead a team of direct and indirect reports to achieve department and organizational outcomes. Provide guidance and coaching to develop staff, promote teamwork and manage performance.
- Support the Chief Executive Officer, which includes:
- Manage HomeEd’s insurance policies and relationships, ensuring effective risk mitigation and claims management.
- Secure loans and grants to finance growth projects and operations.
- Maintain a respectful and professional attitude, demeanor, and appearance at all times, with a high level of service and responsiveness to staff, tenants, and stakeholders
- Oversee all financial reporting, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements
- Oversee the Corporate Risk Register, assessing new and ongoing risks to the Corporation and recommending mitigation measures.
- Manage lender, banking, tax and regulatory reporting relationships, ensuring all reporting requirements are achieved.
- Participate in, and carry direct responsibility for a variety of corporate initiatives and projects.
- Manage and track the performance of invested assets and reserves in keeping with policies and investment expectations.
- Oversee treasury operations including cash management and funding of capital projects. Actively monitor cash flows, developing and managing policies, processes, and risks related to accounts payable and receivable.
- Coordinate the Corporation's annual audit, budgeting, and financial planning processes.
- Participate in Board and Committee Meetings as required.
- Oversee the Corporation's payroll service and ensure corporate adherence to employment legislation. Advise on compensation and benefits matters as required.
- Oversee the collection, privacy, and security of internal and external data for use by HomeEd.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with purchasing authority and contract management protocols. Manage procurement processes, negotiate and authorize agreements as required.
- Analyze financial and operational data against budget and KPIs within required timeline.
- Collaborate with HomeEd’s Executive Team on the planning, analysis, transacting and funding of capital projects including property acquisition, development, rehabilitation, and annual operating activities.
Education and Experience:
- 10+ years in accounting and finance with proven work experience in a senior management role; preference for experience in real estate development and/or property management.
- Demonstrated knowledge and sound understanding of risk management and internal controls.
- Preference for familiarity with non-profit environments, including reporting to a Board of Directors and regulatory agencies.
- CPA designation required, public sector accounting experience is preferred.
- Proven expertise in assembling and managing project financing, preferably for the development and acquisition of real estate.
- Experience and understanding of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems (preference for Yardi), alongside other information systems and analytics platforms.
