Legal Counsel

Calgary - On Site


Job Overview:

Brunel is seeking an experienced and highly qualified Senior Legal Counsel to join our dynamic team in Calgary. As the Senior Legal Counsel, you will play a pivotal role in providing comprehensive legal support and guidance to our organization. This position requires experience as a Legal Counsel, with expertise in NDA review, leases for rental properties, lawsuits, and joint venture agreements. The ideal candidate will possess a diverse background in business markets, with a strong understanding of the Calgary market.


Responsibilities:


Strategic Leadership:

  • Drive operational excellence by establishing clear performance metrics and KPIs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement best practices.
  • Develop and execute the operations strategy aligned with the company's overall goals and objectives.
  • Identify opportunities and risk within the functional area and for the company. Develop and execute approved actions.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, reliability, and safety.


Operational Management:

  • Oversee the operations of E & P activities within the functional unit, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, environmental regulations, and industry standards.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with plant managers, operations teams, and vendors.
  • Ensure focus on EHS awareness, practices and alignment to company goals.
  • Monitor key operational metrics and take proactive measures to optimize plant performance, including availability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify and mitigate operational risks.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and permits governing energy facilities.
  • Foster a culture of safety and environmental stewardship throughout the organization.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and technological advancements to drive continuous improvement and maintain compliance.


Team Management:

  • Drive a culture of accountability, performance excellence, and continuous learning.
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing operations team, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, encouraging teamwork and effective communication.

Requirements:

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong knowledge of energy company operations, maintenance, and compliance requirements. Previous hands on experience is required.
  • A minimum of [10] years of progressive leadership and management experience preferably within the energy industry.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Proven track record in driving operational excellence, process improvement, and cost optimization.
  • Demonstrated success in leading and managing teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field. A Master's degree is an asset.


Requirements:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience as a Legal Counsel, with expertise in NDA review, leases for rental properties, lawsuits, and joint venture agreements. In-depth knowledge of securities laws, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance.
  • A member in good standing of the Law Society of Alberta.
  • Strong drafting and communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited law school.
