Introduction

The VP of Finance works closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and VP of Operations, to define the strategic financial objectives and business strategies for the company; plan, manage, and carry out a course of action to achieve these objectives and ensure that the company has the financial ability to execute its business plan

Responsibilities

• Supervise acquisition due diligence and negotiations.
• Review, develop and implement policies, processes and control for the effective operation of the financial functions. Review, revised and implement best practices for all accounting and financial control.
• Develop financial and tax strategies. Present financial results and complex issues to senior management and the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.
• Understand and mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile
• Monitor and manage cash balances and cash forecasts
• Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
• Manage the accounting, human resources, investor relations, legal, tax, and treasury functions
• Accountable for Corporation financial and statutory reporting, including external quarterly and annual reports and any issuance of financial information.
• Oversee employee benefit plans, with particular emphasis on maximizing a cost effective benefits package.
• Provide financial support to the Business Units
• Monitor all open legal issues involving the company, and legal issues affecting the industry
• Manage the capital request and budgeting processes
• Develop performance measures and monitoring systems that support the company's strategic direction.
• Report risk issues to the audit committee of the board of directors Fiscal Accountability
• Develop and implement audit plans and recommendations. Liaise with internal or external auditors. Provide feedback to the CEO and Board as appropriate.
• Monitor business results on a monthly basis and provide presentation of the financial results to the CEO and the Board.

Requirements

• Strong understanding of corporate finance and performance management principles.
• Ability to make recommendations and provide analytical insight and interpretation of complex financial data to senior management in a clear and concise manner
• Experience working for a publicly traded organization would be an asset.
• Canadian CPA (CA, CMA, CGA) designation is required
• Experience with mergers and acquisitions would be an asset.
• Minimum of 10 years’ progressive senior financial management experience in an oil and gas operating environment.
• Experience in stock IPO and listing would be an asset.
