JOB OVERVIEW

The Financial Controller, under the direction of the Alexander First Nation (AFN) Tribal Administrator, is responsible for providing financial management controls and accounting services for the AFN and its technical entities in accordance with the AFN Financial Controls Policy and the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The Financial Controller contributes to the overall success of the AFN by effectively managing all financial responsibilities, overseeing effective budgeting and accounting practices.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):

• Prepare financial reports, statements, and presentations for management, Board of Directors & Funding agencies
• Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accuracy and compliance
• Monitor and analyze financial performance, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities
• Oversee all financial activities, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
• Coordinate with external auditors and ensure compliance with all applicable financial regulations
• Identify process improvements and implement best practices to enhance financial efficiency
• Collaborate with other departments to support strategic decision-making and drive business growth
• Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end closing processes
• Work alongside the finance team, providing guidance and fostering a collaborative environment

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Proficiency in financial software and tools, including Sage 300, ADP Workforce Now, & Microsoft Office
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
• Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead a team effectively
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; Master's degree or CPA preferred
• Proven experience in a finance role, with a focus on financial management and control
• Exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities
• Strong knowledge of financial principles, regulations, and standards
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
