Our client is an esteemed education institution, currently seeking a Sr. HR Partner to join their team. In this role, you will collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to deliver exceptional HR advisory services and provide labour relations practice leadership.

Responsibilities:
- Promote Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) culture by staying informed on relevant trends impacting HR practices. Recommend enhancements to HR services in this regard.
- Offer HR expertise, advice, and support to leadership and staff in various areas, including recruitment, retention, engagement, performance management, and workforce planning.
- Actively participate in and facilitate committees by preparing agendas, taking minutes, following up on action items, conducting research, writing reports, and drafting memorandums.
- Organize and coordinate new staff orientation and onboarding in partnership with HR Advisor and other departments/teams.
- Collaborate with leadership to ensure effective staff recruitment, following established procedures, policies, and collective agreements. Tasks include conducting diversity audits, managing special program applications, providing hiring committee training, posting positions, handling employment offers, coordinating immigration for foreign workers, and offering general hiring support.
- Establish documented procedures and guidelines for HR services and Labour Relations, aiming for continuous improvement.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Prepare correspondence, reports, and statistical analyses related to the assigned portfolio.
- Supervise confidential record maintenance, ensuring policy and privacy compliance. Coordinate updates in HRIS with the HR Coordinator, and work closely with the Company's Privacy Officer on employment privacy matters.
- Build strong relationships with departments, addressing issues through problem-solving and communication.
- Provide individual coaching to staff on various HR topics, including professional development, performance management, change management, difficult conversations, and fostering a positive work culture.
- Foster positive relationships with Company employees, serving as a resource for policies, procedures, and contract provisions. Collaborate with the HR Director on procedural variations.
- Assist the HR leadership on special projects, including research on best practices.
- Guide the interpretation and application of collective agreement(s) and seek HR Director's help for complex labour matters. Proactively address staff concerns and handle grievance resolutions, including mediation and arbitration. Explore alternative conflict resolution approaches.
- Manage department-specific programs according to collective agreement guidelines.
- Provide procedural administrative support and backup for other HR positions as needed.
- Lead investigation on employee conduct matters, involving the leadership team in strategy development. Summarize investigation findings and make recommendations for potential remedial actions to the Executive team.
Requirements:
- Preferred qualifications: CPHR designation or relevant HR/labour relations professional designation.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Demonstrates sound judgment and maintains confidentiality.
- University degree required, preferably in Industrial Relations, HR, or a related field.
- Excellent consultation, facilitation, conflict resolution, and relationship-building skills in a unionized environment.
- Knowledge of employment and labour laws, regulatory bodies, and their application to HR practice.
- Self-sufficient and effective team player with strong organizational skills.
- Keeps updated on HR best practices, trends, and strategies through research and professional networks.
- Skillful at establishing positive work relationships with staff seeking HR services.
- Can prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and handle multiple interruptions.
- Ability to coach on HR topics, including recruitment, retention, engagement, labour relations, conflict resolution, performance management, and DEI.
- Proficient in developing and implementing recruitment and performance management strategies.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe, and HR Information Systems.
- Strongly preferred: HR experience in post-secondary education environment.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
- Extensive experience advising People Leaders and dealing with collective agreements.
- 5-7 years of progressive HR experience, emphasizing Employee and Labour Relations, recruitment, and performance management in a multi-union setting.
