Job Description
The Site Administrative Manager is responsible for planning and oversight of daily bed management and patient flow activities. As a delegate of the Site Director/Director-on-call, the Site Administrative Manager functions as a centralized resource and contact for decision-making and communication. The Site Administrative Manager chairs daily Bed Management meetings, receives up-to-date information regarding patient flow to/from departments, identifies and prioritizes bed assignments and activity. The Site Administrative Manager proactively identifies, supports and facilitates ongoing advancement of improvement opportunities and best practice related to patient flow activities.


After regular business hours, the Site Administrative Manager will also serve as the clinical and administrative liaison with both clinical and non-clinical staff to ensure operational requirements of the hospital are addressed and, when necessary, consult with and include Director-on-Call and other stakeholders in decision making and planning.


  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills
  • 2-5 years experience in a formal management or leadership position
  • Demonstrated understanding of patient flow and discharge planning
  • Current Certificate of Registration with a Health Professional College
  • Excellent consultation, negotiation, conflict management, mediation and patient advocacy skills
  • 3-5 years acute hospital care experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of health legislations/regulations; health discipline standards of practice; and relevant Collective Agreements
  • Baccalaureate degree required, Masters preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access
  • Advanced interpersonal skills and strong problem solving abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to critically appraise health care literature/policy, evaluate and synthesize findings and guide implementation of best practice protocols
  • Demonstrated understanding of quality improvement methods and tools

Unit Summary


The Community and Population Health Services portfolio supports the advancement of integrated health and social services from hospital to the community. The Program is responsible for the development and advancement of innovative partnerships with peer, community, academic partners, and provides expert leadership in the area of pre- and post-hospital transitions.


The Community and Population Health Services portfolio is accountable for HHS' Population Health, Bundled Care and Alternate Level of Care strategies. The portfolio provides system-wide support through the Site Administrative Managers, Integrated Managers of Transitions, Transitional Care & Discharge Specialists, ALC Navigators, Centralized Care and Transition Team, Hospital to Home (H2H), Integrated Comprehensive Care (ICC) Program, Medical Psychiatry Consultation Liaison Team, Substance Use Services, and in partnership with HNHB Home & Community Support Services. The McMaster Family Health Team (McMaster Family Practice, Stonechurch Family Health Centre and Canadian Blood Services) and Behavioral Supports Ontario (BSO) are aligned to the portfolio.
