Location: Remote – Canada or Hybrid, Victoria BC


Who we’re looking for


National Payroll Specialist


Like WCG, you believe in the power of work to transform lives. As National Payroll Specialist, you’ll be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for 500 WCG employees across Canada. The National Payroll Specialist ensures timely processing of federal and provincial remittances including Employer Health Tax and Workers Compensation Board premiums and handles payroll accounting entries and reconciliations. WCG currently utilizes UKG Pro (formerly UltiPro) to process payroll but is actively exploring alternative solutions to better fit our growing company. The successful candidate will play a big role in selecting the new payroll solution and then implementing it along with other key staff at WCG including a dedicated IT Resource.


What you’ll do


  • Develop and prepare payroll, government, and statistical reports
  • Provide support to the Finance team as needed
  • Process semi-monthly payroll in accordance with federal and provincial employment standards and regulations across Canada
  • Prepare remittances for various provincial Workers’ Compensation Boards and Employer Health Tax
  • Prepare and enter journal entries, and records payroll benefit invoices and payments, in MS Navision
  • Support in the selection and implementation of a new payroll system
  • Identify areas for improvement and make recommendations, including automation of routine procedures and integration of systems

What you bring


  • Extensive experience in administering a multi-provincial payroll with strong knowledge of Employer Standards Acts and Federal requirements
  • Willingness to learn and enhance skills
  • Relevant professional development completed to complement practical experience
  • 5+ years of practical experience in processing full-cycle pay-runs
  • Intermediate Excel knowledge
  • Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) designation (formerly Certified Payroll Manager, or CPM)
  • Ability to self-audit own work as well as output from payroll system
  • Good technical skills relating to financial software programs
  • Ability to organize workload and time effectively to ensure adherence to all deadlines
  • Knowledge of basic accounting procedures and processing
