Mechanical Technologist (D376) Jobs

Purpose of the position

Want to change how businesses and students collaborate?

Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, you'll build and test prototypes of leading edge innovative products and fabricating fixtures for within Hardware Development.

You'll have a diploma or certificate as a mechanical engineering technologist with working knowledge of a machine shop (mill, lathe, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Creating and updating production drafts and drawings to assist engineers
• Execute mechanical verification test plans
• Design, fabricate and modify experimental test apparatus
• Train personnel to use lab equipment without supervision
• Fabricate and modify prototypes
• Manage the mechanical prototype lab to enable creation, modification and testing of prototypes
• Maintenance of lab, test and measurement equipment including CNC router, CNC mill, lathe, FDM machine, environmental chambers and paint spray booth
• Any other reasonable activity required by leadership

Requirements

• Experience using Microsoft® Excel, Word, et al.
• Mechanical technologist diploma or Machinist (or related)
• Experience and safe practice using a variety of shop tools including table saws, miter saws, milling machine, sheet metal shear, paint booth and lathe
• 5+ years of experience
• Experience using CAD and CAM packages (i.e. SolidWorks, VisualMILL, WinCNC, SprutCAM, PathPilot, etc.)

Supervision

• Working in a team environment
• Smaller individual projects are also expected.
• This position has no direct reports
• Collaboration with other hardware engineers on large projects will be typical.

Working conditions

• Travel to China and other Asian countries. 5-10% travel is required
• Predominately in-office and lab environment
• Some travel to schools and businesses can be expected.
