Role Overview
We are looking to hire anIntermediate Mechanical Engineerwho will provide mechanical engineering support to the project team, ensuring that technical excellence, cost, schedule, and contractual requirements are achieved. The Mechanical Engineer will work closely with the mechanical design team to ensure working plans and technical drawings meet project specifications and goals. This individual will report to the Mechanical Engineering Manager and will work alongside the senior members of the team.

Experience & Academic Requirements

• Experience working closely with various stakeholders including clients, project management, and other technical disciplines.
• Industrial HVAC design would be an asset.
• Expertise in piping design and material selection in accordance to oil and gas projects in Western Canada.
• Experience with CSA, ASME, and API standards related to piping as well as rotating and static equipment.
• Working knowledge of CAD design software and standards would be an asset.
• 5 - 10 years of progressive professional Mechanical or Piping Engineering experience in the upstream and midstream oil and gas industry; EP or EPCM experience is very desirable.
• Professional Engineering designation with APEGA isa must.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT at a minimum) and PDF editing programs, which are routinely used to create reports, presentations and documents.
• Experience with various rotating equipment, such as compressors, gas/steam turbines, compressors, pumps, seals, and special-purpose rotating equipment auxiliary systems would be an asset.
• Strong understanding of static equipment such as pressure vessels, tanks, and heat exchangers.
• Graduate of a recognized university with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering discipline or equivalent.
• PE designation within one or more US states, or completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam is very desirable.
• Piping stress analysis using Caesar II and/or FE-Pipe would be an asset. Experience with FEA software is also considered an asset.
• Recent experience in executing multiple design projects and multi-disciplined small to medium size projects, including both engineering and procurement.

Responsibilities

• Mentor, direct work, and supervise junior team members.
• Provide technical support to internal and client field staff, as required.
• Assist in creating work document packages during closeout of projects.
• Play an active role in team and internal stakeholder meetings.
• Travel to field for project scoping, verification, construction support, and meeting with clients.
• Analyze technical issues within the Mechanical Engineering discipline, aided and supported by the other specialist disciplines.
• Assist PM’s and leads with business development activities, as required, including but not limited to preparing proposals, estimates, and presentations.
• Completion of other relevant duties as required.
• Partner with stakeholders in proposal writing, marketing presentations, and organization of internal resources for assigned prospects.
• Assist in the development of discipline-specific work practices and procedures.
• Stamp and issue technical drawings and work packages.
• Mark-up, review, provide input to the design team related to technical drawings.
• Manage to budget and schedules for assigned scopes of work. Identify any slippages to schedule or budget and make changes accordingly; prepare or assist with preparing change notices, as required.
• Perform mechanical calculations and develop work packages and engineering documents.
• Manage time and resources in accordance with a project plan.
• Assist in the creation of other project documents such as Requests for Information (RFIs) and Purchase Recommendations.
• Execute mechanical engineering activities with the objective of meeting the defined contractual scope to the relevant codes, standards, and company procedures.
• Report to Mechanical Discipline Lead on progress of work and ensure coordination between the engineering, design, and project management teams.
