Location: Brampton, ON
Salary Scale: $51,521 to $64,401 annually
As a key member of the Marketing & Communications Team, the Marketing & Communications Assistant applies graphic design and marketing/promotions knowledge to assist with the effective and efficient implementation of marketing and communications strategies, which advance the interests of Algoma University to support enrolment growth, brand awareness, and reputation management. Primary responsibilities include assisting with planning and designing promotions/publications, supporting institutional branding, and other administrative support/functions. The position is responsible for prioritizing workflow within the scope of the role to support the overall marketing and communications strategy of the University.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Promotions/Publication Development (40%)
- Assist the Digital Communications Specialist with website content updates.
- Coordinate printing and sourcing of promotional materials through external suppliers.
- Assist the Marketing and Communications Coordinator with the provision of layout and graphic design for digital and print materials and advertising, to support a range of strategic initiatives within a multi-campus cross-cultural environment.
- Assist with the execution of promotions, as approved by the Manager of Marketing and Communications, to support institutional goals and objectives.
- Assist with photography to support the development of promotional materials and other related informational items.
- Prepare ad space as directed by the Marketing and Communications Coordinator.
Communications (25%)
- Develop content for the University’s social media strategy as it relates to visual media, specifically photography.
- Assist with internal communications activities to support and inform the Algoma U community of University strategic priorities and initiatives.
- Assist the Senior Communications Officer with general internal and external communications-related activities (event support, assistance with content development for media releases, newsletters, etc.).
- Liaise with the University community to collect and disseminate information regarding University events and activities using a variety of media.
- Organize and execute special events and activities as required, both on and off campus, to support strategic priorities.
- Organize photo opportunities as required for University activities.
Administrative Support/Other Duties (20%)
- Adhere to proper proofreading and sign-off procedures for all materials.
- Ensure appropriate photography releases are obtained and on file.
- Other duties as assigned, to support the efficient operations of marketing and communications-related functions of the University.
- Maintain database of print materials.
- Maintain the department’s shared drive including photo archive and catalogue of promotional materials.
Brand Management (15%)
- Provide advice to ancillary marketing initiatives on the use of the University logo, colours, and brand image.
- Monitor and assist with the management of updates to University signage.
- Monitor the use of the Algoma U logo and colours across digital and traditional communications platforms, and maintain the University's brand image in all communications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of Indigenous design elements/media is an asset.
- Strong working knowledge of social media platforms (e.g. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.).
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
- Desktop publishing (Canva, Publicate, etc.)
- Mac proficiency
- Strong understanding of all aspects of print processes and press checks.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong customer/client services skills.
- Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, styles, and abilities.
- Ability to balance competing priorities and work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
- College Diploma in Graphic Design or a related field, and two (2) years of experience in a marketing, media relations, and/or communications field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
- Strong administrative and organizational skills with the demonstrated ability to take initiative and prioritize work in a high-volume office
- Graphic design, including photo editing skills, require program familiarity: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat
- Ability to travel to support marketing and communications activities in a multi-campus environment.
- Sound working knowledge of IT needs including;
- Google Suite
- Photography experience and skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are required.
