Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Our Planning and Development Office is seeking a Manager and Senior Advisor who will support to the SMT Member in the areas of corporate administration, team governance and operations, senior management team advisory, stakeholder management, and enterprise strategy alignment activities.
Reporting directly to the Chief Planning Officer (CPO), you will lead a team and provide executive oversight, strategic advice and support to the CPO in their responsibility for supporting the organization and reporting in to the Board and the Shareholders (MTO and the Minister).
What will I be doing?
- Acts as a focal point/contact between the Office of the CPO and the Deputy Minister’s/Minister’s Offices and the Office of the Secretary of Cabinet, to share information, identify/solve issues as they arise (often of a contentious/high profile nature).
- Participates in organization wide business planning and estimates process leading to the development of the annual Results-based planning documents.
- Leads the development of various management and high-profile stakeholder committee
- Provides analysis and advice to the Senior Management Team to ensure the successful achievement of the CPO and Board agenda
- Manages the tracking, reporting and identification of issues and the research and analysis of patterns and trends.
- Leads and/or participates on executive committees and working groups and represents the CPO on various committees and meetings
- Participate in the development and evaluation of business plans and service objectives, strategies and the development of policies/procedures, including the identification, management and resolution of business delivery and staffing issues.
- Provides leadership for corporate coordination of key documents and processes related to decision making, accountability and transparency.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Superior strategic communication skills (verbal, written) to prepare and review a range of written documentation including briefing materials, reports, presentations, options and proposals; to provide strategic advice, oral briefings and presentations to the CPO
- Completion of a degree in business administration, public administration or a related discipline –Post-graduate degree (Masters’ degree) an asset
- Expert level knowledge of strategic policy, business planning and public administration theory, and methods to lead/oversee policy and planning frameworks, processes and the development of related corporate plans.
- Well-versed on processes to streamline information flow and approval processes, and managing projects from inception to implementation working with multiple stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience providing strategic advice to senior executives, leading teams, managing and reviewing written materials
- Experience in a public sector is an asset
