This is an exciting opportunity to join the Quark team to lead the FP&A function, vision, and strategy - while working side-by-side with the brand CFO.
Q uark is part of the Travelopia group which is one of the world’s leading specialist travel groups providing customers with a diverse range of unique travel experiences. This includes adventure travel, safaris, private jet and polar expeditions, tailor-made luxury holidays, yacht and river boat charter holidays, educational and sporting based school trips, corporate hospitality and sporting event fan travel. Private equity owned by KKR, Travelopia is headquartered in the UK with offices and marine bases all over the world .
T he key responsibilities include :
Reporting to the CFO, and working closely with the Finance, Commercial, and Operations teams, the Senior Director, FP&A role is critical for the business. In addition to core duties such as monthly/annual forecasting/budgeting and providing support to management via financial analysis, this role is a direct contributor to commercial decision‐making and presentations for senior management at both Quark and Travelopia.
Key tasks:
  • Intimately understand every P&L line, key contracts, key decisions, key drivers and bring challenge and ideas on efficiencies, including ROI on trade spend (channel/customer analysis) and involvement in big trade deals.
  • Preparing annual budgets and longer‐term strategic plan models and presentations, incorporating goal attainment and performance metrics, including funnel (leads, conversion), sales, pricing and financial metrics
  • Leading the financial modelling of season launches, including COGS and the overall financial metrics, season over season and ship‐vs.‐ship analysis and trending
  • An ability to work with multiple priorities under tight deadlines
  • A sense of curiosity, wanting to dig in to and understand anything that looks unusual or off‐trend, and to understand the granular detail of actuals to appropriately support forecast assumptions
  • Crafting and maintaining effective relationships with business partners and cross‐functional teams at all levels of the organization
  • Improving the timely dissemination of financial results and forecasts to budget owners and department heads, owning and ensuring action items are addressed and reviewed at least monthly with department heads
  • Spearheading the packages for monthly Business Review Meetings and quarterly Business Unit Updates with Travelopia, creating presentations that provide insightful analysis, identify required action items, and effectively frame decisions to be made
  • Working with project‐based teams to report and analyze spending against forecasts/budgets for large capital projects and other initiatives including M&A opportunities
  • Working with the Commercial and Sales teams on bookings/customer deposit forecasts and strategies to enhance the same, including the impact of promotions/discounts and customer terms & conditions
  • Ongoing development of important metrics and dashboarding of results for the executive team and parent company
  • Driving ad hoc analysis to support data‐driven decision making across the organization.
  • Identifying and monitoring areas of opportunities and risks in Quark’s performance across both P&L and Cash, with supporting analysis, including ownership of maintaining O&R financials with phasing alongside budget owners
  • Variance analysis and bridge reporting of actuals vs. forecast, vs. budget, and vs. previous year financial results-driving takeaways for future forecasts and identifying areas for yield improvement and cost minimization
  • Maintaining financial models that feed into exec summaries, such as variance analysis of COGS (fuel split by price and consumption, expedition staff wages vs travel, variable vs fixed costs and underlying drivers, etc.)
  • Developing, preparing and leading the planning, forecasting, and analysis function of Quark’s financial planning, including variance analysis vs. prior forecasts and understanding of drivers of YTD vs YTG performance, across P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash
The successful candidate will have :
  • Interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with various management levels
  • Advance knowledge of Microsoft Excel, well versed with preparing PowerPoint presentations for the executive team, and Hyperion experience would be an asset
  • Track record of developing highly flexible financial models allowing for rapid analysis of ever‐changing scenarios
  • Superior attention to detail and ability to successfully manage multiple competing priorities while maintaining a view of the big picture
  • Validated and extensive financial forecasting, budgeting and modelling experience in an equivalent organization
  • A willingness to be both a leader and a “doer” and an ability to work with minimal direction
  • Strong financial acumen and understanding of general accounting rules with a consistent record of high performance in financial analysis and reporting
  • Experience in a dynamic business with a need for iterative financial modelling across a number of scenarios
  • MBA or CA/CPA preferred
  • Has helped connect senior management's long term Strategic Plan to reality.
  • 10 years or greater of relevant financial planning and business analysis experience
  • Experience in a fixed cost business that’s highly dependent on revenue management to achieve financial results would be ideal
  • Experience as the FP&A lead with frequent contact with all areas of the enterprise including Finance, Operations, Commercial, Sales, Marketing, and Product
